More than 40 percent of Mexican adults say they would move to the U.S. if they could, and 1 in 5 say they would do so illegally if necessary, according to surveys released yesterday by the Pew Hispanic Center.

Surveys of 1,200 Mexican adults in February and 1,200 in May, conducted in their homes, show that Mexicans' rising education levels have not weakened the desire to live and work in this country.

More than a third of Mexican college graduates say they would come to the U.S. if they could, and more than 1 in 8 would do so even if they had to enter the country illegally, according to the surveys, the first of their kind.

"Contrary to what people might expect, the inclination to migrate isn't contained among Mexicans who are poor or poorly educated or with limited economic prospects," says Roberto Suro, director of the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan research group in Washington. "They're distributed across the whole breadth of Mexican society."

And? Is that suppose to raise my opinion of their citizenry? It's just proof of their apathetic views on illegal conduct.

And more reason to keep them out.

That's because Mexicans know we will cater to them and give them everything on a silver platter. Most Mexicans who come here live on the dole. If we refused to give them everything and made them work for a living, they would change their minds and wouldn't want to come here.

Take the reason they come here off the table, that being the free handouts that they're given.

I think it's good they wanna come. But if they wanna come, they sure better do it legally.

We should round up all illegals take them back, and stregthen our borders.

There, I just figured it out. :D

:boxer: They should move the statue of liberty to the border with Mexico and modify it so she's sticking her tongue out at Mexico.

I don't care what law-abiding foreigners come here legally, as long as they don't apply for welfare bum benefits. We have plenty of those natural-born leeches here. The welfare bimbettes getting pregnant by momma's boys are the biggest ones. But that's a different topic.

I humbly disagree with Mr. Wolfcounsel. It isn't really a different topic. "Welfare bimbettes" would be far more likely to be working and taking care of themselves were they not in competition with illegal aliens for work. Were illegals not causing wages to become depressed for work that American citizens used to perform, and were illegals and their employers not closing off American citizens from jobs, the the rate of welfare would decline, IMHO. Immigration, whether legal or illegal, must be curtailed. It should be the choice of citizens as to whether they want more immigrants, not politicians beholden to racial lobbies and cheap labor addicts.

Kind of what I've been saying all along, Dowple. Make one standard. Either immigrants need to apply for visas to come here and then meet requirement for citizenship or they don't. As it stands, some don't (Mexicans) and some don't (everyone else in the world).

If it is decided that no one need apply and just "come on over," then we should eliminate the INS and use the money elsewhere.
