Hi yall

I need some advice. As some of yall know I recently went back to writing for the local newspaper. Actually I should say I recently returned to writing because of the New local paper. For the last week I have been researching a column on Meth Labs here in the Northern Hunt County area. To be honest some of the information I have learned from some of the people I helped campaign for concerns me deeply. I have an appointment with the Chief of Police tommorrow and the District Attorney Saturday morning. The people I have already spoken with make it pretty clear that we have serious Meth problem around here.

My wife is concerned about our safety if I go ahead and publish an article on this subject. Personally, I dont think there is a serious risk but I dont like to worry her. What do yall think?

In all honesty, when it comes to Meth, I don't know.

The Methheads are a bizarre breed, and the makers of Meth are the same.

It is some dangerous stuff, when it is being made, and the profits are unreal.

If it were me, but it's not, I would publish the article, and then stay armed, but then again, I always am armed.

I would publish the article, but watch my back, and stay alert.

Which is really just common sense in this day and age.

The truth hurts sometimes, but let it hurt them, NOT you.

Probably NOT helpful.. because it is you, not me...

Dear Unk, I do not see you as someone to back away from the truth, even if it proves potentially harmful or dangerous. What you write may or may not at all have an affect on those the piece applies to. If it were just you, I know you would have no problem doing this. But your wife is worried, so take her worries into consideration first if at all possible. I don't know how deep the worries are though, or how heck-bent you are on this literary work, so I am not one to judge this. Just listen to her concerns, and only you know if it is truely something she will worry for if you go forward.

Any way to use an alias for your byline? In cases like this, it would be prudent.

I live in a small town. real small. No alias would work.

You're right if it was just me involved I would not even give it a second thought but I try hard to not worry my sweet blonde.

Aric

Call me paranoid, I have stayed armed at all times since I wrote the less than flattering article about the local Klan a few years ago.

Unk,

Pray. Talk long, hard, and seriously with Mrs. Unk. Pray some more. ALWAYS do what is right -- sometimes it is NOT what is convenient, the safest, or what others would do.
My father served in law enforcement in my childhood years -- I remember my Mom getting threatening phone calls and warnings that someone was going to "get" my dad or us, I remember having to learn how to use a firearm early, I do NOT remember my Dad ever wanting to quit, or my Mom wanting him to. I'm not suggesting anything negative by this, for you must do what is right for YOU and YOUR family.
I will certainly keep you and yours in OUR prayers, too!

Blessings,
Hms

Don't publish the article. Cowards abound everywhere, and you have loved ones to protect. I have a feeling that the finest police that money can buy can be found in towns where the meth creeps thrive. At your appointment, if I were in your shoes, I would simply tell those people to do the job they were paid to do, and that is to stop crime. Only I would not be so nice with my words.

Keep your weapons and ammunition clean and functioning, and keep your radar turned on, to watch for crooked cops and other assorted cowards.

I'm kind of with Wolf on this! You need to take your wife's feelings into account with this.
It's her fear and I don't think it's an unfounded one. If you choose to write this don't name names. Make it informational not in a muckraking style....Does that make sense?
Good Luck on this one.
