View Full Version : Why can't we all just get along?
The title of this thread is a rhetorical question in the sense that it is not one I expect to be answered satisfactorily. More to the point. There is a flame board. Good idea. That way people can take their fights to that board and leave the other boards to more civil. Well not quite. This is a provocative website to say the least. It isn't really meant to be a place where we can all just get along, is it? No it isn't. So here is a question which may or may not be less rhetorical than the original. If there is a flame board, why is there not the opposite, namely a flame free board? A stupid question? perhaps, especially considering that this doesn't seem to be part of the point of this website in the first place.
But I ask it, well aware of the fact that it may be a pointless question, in order to see what kind of answer I will get.

Is a website dedicated to the free expression of conservative ideals and principles in a world that too often seems to be gripped in the tentacles of political correctness, confusion, disinformation, and derision of anything "conservative". FreeConservatives strives to help truth seeking people the world over to overcome those societal and political barriers to true freedom by propagating truth and open discussion without the hindrance of lies, rhetoric and propaganda foisted upon the American populace by the left leaning popular media in this country and others. FreeConservatives is an online gathering place for grass-roots conservatism. Our crusade is to roll back the decades of failed socialism, expose political corruption, and to support causes which advance conservatism in America. If you are fed up with the lies and failures of Liberalism or all the other hopeless "isms", then you've found a home, and a place in the world.
Getting along is overrated. How much fun would a discussion be if everyone sat around patting everyone else on the back saying "yeah, I agree." If you want a place where everyone is forced to get along, you are asking to be micromanaged and forced to respond in a certain way. No thanks! I have no problem with people disagreeing with me.
Well disagreement is fine. But what is not fine is arguing back and forth without ever finding solutions to problems. It is one thing to argue and quite another thing when those disagreements turn to violence. That is more to the point than being 'nicey nice'. People should never be afraid to say exactly what they believe (within obvious legal boundaries). Keeping your thoughts to yourself isn't necessarily the most charitable thing.

On the whole, we do alot of respectful disagreement here. Yes, we get our occasional trolls who come in and start trouble. As pointed out, this is a site for free expression so rather than be like the Drunken Underground, we will try debate. If they get personal or just plain belligerent, well, they get banned.
Yes, we have Flame Wars, a place to drop the gloves, curse like a sailor and get personal if we choose. Alot of times though, things get ugly before they get there. My feeling is, if you can't take a little heat then you shouldn't be here.
Hey, I recently had a debate with a Yankee fan in the Sports Lounge. I don't find it a worthwhile topic for Flaming. I could go on forever citing examples. Still, I like coming here, debating issues and swapping ideas. I find it good mental exercise.

*Sigh* These trolls still don't understand.
Flame wars is for, umm, exactly that. Flaming.
Everything else, IS flame free(suppose to be that, unfortunately trolls like to come over here to flame them). Why would we want to name everything else "Flame Free???"
Take from me, if you don't like it here, leave. It's as simple as that.

With huge apologies to Spike Jones, here's the DU's official theme song. Sing along! (Unzip the attachment for a MIDI of this charming lied.)
When der Skinner makes us pay to use his place
We heil heil right in der Skinner's face
Not to pay to post here is a great disgrace
So we heil heil right in der Skinner's face
When Herr Birdman proves his head is full of space
We heil heil right in Herr Birdman's face
When Herr Birdman says they'll never hack dis place
We heil heil right in Herr Birdman's face
Are we not the clueless men
Absolutely clueless men
Ja we are the clueless men
Super stupid clueless men
Is this crappy board so good
Would you close it if you could
Ja this crappy board is good
We would close it if we could
We bore the Web to torpor
Heil Skinner's world of torpor
Everyone not of this place
Will kiss der Skinner's... face
When we bore to the Web to torpor
Heil Führskinner!

Honey you fail to see the point. The idea of this site is for CONSERVATIVES to get together WITHOUT liberal hogwash. We have a flames wars section because we know getting complete leisure on a public site is impossible. That is our safety net for liberals. The rest of the site is intended for more polite conversation; however that does not mean that "polite" conversation will always follow through.
We can't all "just get along" that would be boring! Even conservatives amongst ourselves don't always get along. Quite frankly from what I have observed we fight harder amongst ourselves than we do with libs. If we all "got along" we would all be the same. There is no fun in uniformality when it comes down to poltical and religious belfiefs. Why would anyone want to be the same? Celebrate the differences.
