Wonder if the teachers get to cuss back? Not that it would make this situation any better:

As children throughout the country head back to school, many of them are probably muttering a few choice words about the prospect of returning to the classroom and the expected onslaught of homework. But can they utter those choice words and swear at their teachers? If they’re heading back to school in one town in England, then yes, they can.

According to a report in the U.K.’s Daily Mail, one school in the town of Wellingborough is allowing pupils to swear at teachers, providing they only do so no more than five times in a class. A tally of how many times the f-word is used will be kept and if the class exceeds the limit, they will be “spoken” to, the newspaper reported.

The school believes the policy will improve behavior, but parents and parliamentary members have condemned the rule and warned it would backfire.

No cussing is allowed at any of my schools. You'd be sittin' in detention in a hot second.

No cussing allowed in my school. Of course we homeschool so I get to make the rules.

I support the preservation of the power of cuss words, because you never know when you may need one. To preserve their effect, they should be used only very rarely and the (rather arbitrary) taboo should be upheld.

I like the sign I saw in a barber shop not long ago,
" Using profanity shows a lack of intelligence."

But who gets to say what is taboo? There are no rules in place, it is just called "cussing." I never got to that point in highschool, or at home. Around friends maybe, but nowadays even THAT sounds trashy. Cussing in itself is trashy, and I know that if it is allowed by adults, it will become the norm. Trashy will become even more okay than it already is in society.

Parents should teach respect anyway. If ever a school thought that this should be incorporated, then it is a sign of a weak managed school system with run-down values of respect.

I see the U.S. does not have a monopoly on idiots in the public school system.

I know of no laws against cussing. It is a social rule far more than a legal one. Adults are allowed to cuss, they just don't do it much because society has declared certain words taboo. Taboo words are a fascinating phenomenon. Some words make sense to be taboo, such as words that are meant to demean a race or gender or culture. Others such as **** and shit are simply taboo and very few know the origins of why. Their being taboo is enough to keep th em taboo. Interesting that the censor on this board took out F-ck but not shit.

WOW!! And I thought some American schools were getting to lax. I see no reason for the children to be allowed to cuss.
