Hey you!!! Guess where I finally am? Yep. The UK. I finally moved in with my Jamie. And although driving on the left is more than strange, I really like it over here.

I haven't had time for FC in the last time because I had just so much to organise, but now I am quite settled down in good old England and have plenty of time while job hunting.

I will see a recruitment officer about a job today. She told me about quite a good job at a company which is about 10mins from our house. Pretty good starting salary, nice benefits and good working-hours. I get to use my German language skills on top, so it seems quite a good start. I mean, wow, I've only been here for 8 days so far and already got all the paperwork and everything done and I even got plenty of job offers.

Quite a difference to socialist Germanys job market where it would probably take me about 8 years to get a decent job atm.

So, wish me luck for my interview today :)

I'll be on FC more often now again. Oh and btw, I have a new E-mail addy. those who normally send me emails, check my profile for that and don't mail me on my old adress because the messages won't reach me.

Thanky :thumb: What a day. Quite cool news about the job. The company has had a look at my CV and wants to see me. So now I arranged a job interview this friday. You gonna have to wish me good luck folks. Gonna have to buy me some new clothes tomorrow.

And holy shit, really banks can be so annoying at times. I registered at an English bank last week and got all my saving accounts from Germany transferred over here. Now the funny thing is, the English banks policy doesnt allow me to have a normal account like a debit card etc. but only a Cash account because I havent been living here for 3 years. I mean, with weird countries like Poland etc I would understand this, but Germany? Pfft.. In Germany its not that hard to get a bank account. However..this cash account means I cant actually ever use my bankcard to pay for anything and I cant actually get money out of an ATM machine that is not provided by my actual bank... pfft.

Besides that, I was bowling in the afternoon. Didnt play to bad. Was 2nd out of 4 players. hehe

:) I am not a fan of tea. some of the flavored ones I can drink but it's not a favorite for me. I guess I wouldn't fit in over in England.

I drink a lot of tea. My favorites are British teas - English Breakfast Tea and Earl Grey Tea.

Good luck with your interview.

English Breakfast tea is what I have been drinking all the time here. With milk and sweetener. Mhmmm

The interview is at 10 am GMT on Friday.

I just had a conversation with someone of the Jobcenterplus and they are seriously annoying. Listen to this:

I need to apply for a national insurance number in order to legally work in the uk. Now, to get an interview with the Jobcenter Plus to apply for the national insurance number I already gotta have job. Now, regarding my interview is on Friday and they need someone ASAP I would have to take the first day off work just to apply for the national insurance number.

But, if I was claiming for benefits because technically right now I am unemployed, I would get a national insurance number straight away and a few bucks from the state aswell.

Now wtf is that? I mean, why do they make it so complicated for those who want to work and dont want to live on benefits while those who claim for benefits get not just what they requested but money on top without moving one damn finger?

I just hope that this wont effect my interview on Friday... The funny thing is, I cant even arrange an appointment with the jobcenter while not having a job.. sometimes I wonder if those who invent such procedures actually are aware of what they are doing...

Kate,

Hope and pray all works out for you. It sounds quite annoying -- you probably have more patience for all that than I would. I am not a big fan of what I call "red tape." Glad the move went smooth, and hopefully the rest will too.

Blessings,
Hms

Well I made the Job Agency write a letter to the Jobcenterplus that they will employ me either permanently or temporary .. so now I should get my National Insurance Number anyway. I'm at least hoping so.

Played pool last night. I'm gettin better and better. I'm having some issues with the German Debitel company because of my cellphone contract.. they dont offer their services abroad but want to charge me anyhow.. so I am trying toget out of there. No way they can do that. I mean, part of my education was legal education so I know that if they cant fullfill the contract, they have to allow me to get out of it before it expires. Which is in May 2006. I think I sorted that out on the telephone, Im going to write them a letter now and hopefully they'll stop charging me for nothign at all. It would not overly bother me to pay those 7 euros a month but thing is, if I want to tranfsfer the money from abroad I have to pay a fee of my and their bank on top. Which would be about 10-15 GBP .. I dont see myself wasting money on that.

What a headache. I can't stand bureaucracy. kate I'm really happy for you. I'm wishing you rots of ruck. Translation: Lots of luck! What do these abreviations mean, GBP & CV?

My cell phone company (Cingular) allows me to drop their service within 30 days after I upgrade to one of their new phones. No harm, no foul, no contract. I just walk away from them. Then I can take my new phone and activate it with someone else...like T-Mobile.

Thank you :) You wouldn't believe how great it feels to know that everythings going the way you want it to. I am so looking forward to do this job. It sounds very challenging and I can't wait to get started. I'll go shopping this weekend to find some new appropriate clothes as they have a strict dress code and I must admit my walldrobe is not exactly full of very posh clothes at the moment. I still need to get this freaking National Insurance Number which hopefully will be soon because I dont really want to take time off work for that in the first weeks.

I will make a nice spicy chinese dinner for James and his family tonight. His mother was cheering with me for half an hour.

The job is really good. Very nice salary which will help us getting a good mortgage rate for the house James and I will look for to buy soonish and also we want to start looking at cars because it would be an advantage to get to work with a car.

I'm really happy now. :D
