Speaking of conundrums (conundra? conundrae?), here's one for Texas residents, particularly LongPlat:

The governor of Texas, Rick Perry, is lying on your front lawn, and, for reasons known only to him and the leadership of the GOP, is on fire. You happen to look out the window while you're watching a football game with your team jersey and football cleats. You race out of your house with a beer in hand, and are forced to make a quick decision as to what is the best thing you can do. As Perry's life flashes before his eyes, a menu of options flashes before yours. You have to decide whether to. . .

1) . . . Pour your beer on his burning body, and hope your friends aren't watching you waste a perfectly good bottle of beer;

2) . . . Stomp on his burning body with your cleats to put out the fire;

3) . . . Piss on him to extinguish the blaze;

4) . . . Push him onto the sidewalk so the heat from his body doesn't ruin the turf on your lawn.

5) . . . Beat off all the other teachers from the state who are trying to put out the fire with cans of gasoline.

My current decision is to reelect him. That may change, but I see no viable alternative at this time.

Personally (NOT A TEACHER)

I would piss on him to put out the fire. Then reluctantly re-elect him next year

:unsmile: I'm hoping that another Republican will challenge Perry in the primaries. Troy Aikman can have the job for the asking.

:unsmile: I'm also hoping we can keep the governor's mansion & the state legislature in Republican hands, in spite of all the New Orleanians that have migrated to Texas.

:moo: BTW, "conundra".

Not only that, but she has been trading reductions in taxes for huge campaign contributions from those who are appealing their tax bills. Perry may not be as competent as GW Bush was, but at least he's not a crook like Strayhorn.

Turn on the sprinklers, finish off the beer, unlock the front door and invite him in for a cold one. Got to be civil to a fellow Texan.

Got to be civil to a fellow Texan.Seems to me a fellow Texan who happens to be the governor ought to be civil and FAIR to the employees of the state. When Bush was governor, the state representatives passed legislation to grant public school teachers a better health care system. Then they rescinded it. And it doesn't appear likely we'll ever get it back. Governor Perry has not made it a priority. He can't seem to figure out what a priority is or what it means.

For a Texan, he sure is hang-tailed, droopy version of one.

For a Texan, he sure is hang-tailed, droopy version of one.Texas has long under appreciated teachers. The attrition every year in cities like Dallas is enormous. You are correct, teachers should receive compensation and benefits as befitting one who is educating tomorrows leaders. If such a conundrum were ever to take place, I'd be sure to raise the topic while Mr. Perry and I share a cold one.:thumb:
