I got a 50 out of 50 for this critical article review paper I had to write for my American Painting in the 19th Century class. This is despite this little excerpt from the directions to the assignment.
"You are encouraged to meet with the professor early and often about your article selection, and to submit a draft of your work in advance. This assignment demands significant attention, and can not be written the night before it is due. Trust me."
I, of course, did indeed write the paper the night before.

Trev, is that an Art Appreciation class of some kind? If you don't mind me asking, what sort of class is it, I mean what sort of assignments?
It is an art history class. It differs form class to class, because the professor also teaches other art history classes dealing with other aspects of art, but in this one we have three exams, this critical article review, and a museum paper and presentation. We had to go to this one art museum and choose a painting there, then we have to write a paper on it and give a five minute presentation to the class. Half the grade on the presentation comes form the professor, and the other half comes from the averaged scores of the other students.
These were the directions for that critical article review since you were curious as to what the assignments were like. We had to choose one article out of five to write on.

"Guidelines for Critical Article Review Paper:
The goal of this project is to assess your ability to comprehend and critically evaluate scholarly material in an articulate manner. It will not only challenge your writing abilities, but also your capability to research and form opinions from material you read.<O:p</O:p
There are two aspects of this assignment: technical requirements that must be followed, and the paper’s content as a clear presentation of ideas.
Technical Requirements for Critical Article Review:<O:p</O:p
2-3 typewritten pages, double-spaced, 10-12 size font <O:p</O:p
Cover page (not included in page count) which includes the following: complete bibliographical information regarding the article you are reviewing; followed by your name; course title; professor's name; semester. <O:p</O:p
Proper notation of sources within the paper and with bibliography/works cited page at end (must use MLA style format…not APA style, which is junk) <O:p</O:p
Free of spelling and grammatical errors (easily achieved by using spelling and grammar tool)
Note: if your paper does not meet the technical requirements in any way, it will not be graded, thus earning 0 points.<O:p</O:p
Content and Presentation of Ideas:<O:p</O:p
Your grade will be based on the following elements: thorough summary of article; originality of presentation; posing questions or arguments regarding the author’s critique; and clarity of prose. Obviously, a good deal of this grade is subjective, based on my perception of your understanding of the material. In order to do well, you must:<O:p</O:p
1. Read the article<O:p</O:p
2. Establish the author's key arguments (their thesis).<O:p</O:p
3. Summarize these points in a clear, concise manner.<O:p</O:p
4. Properly note direct quotes from the article (try and keep these to a minimum).<O:p</O:p
5. Raise your own questions regarding the reviewer’s motives and point of view, and speculate as to the possible validity of their criticisms, based on what you have read and learned in class.<O:p</O:p
You are encouraged to meet with the professor early and often about your article selection, and to submit a draft of your work in advance. This assignment demands significant attention, and can not be written the night before it is due. Trust me."

After 27 years I have STILL retained the knowledge and know how to drive a stick shift LMAO!!!!
My brother taught me how to drive his 77 Chevy Vega hatchback when I was 15, and I still remember his teachings and the know-how to drive a stick.
So I'm perfectly O.K. for my classes this comin week when it comes to driving Semis and stick shifting.
He he he
Its amazing what kids will pick up and Retain, never underestimate the absorption power of children around you.
I remember when my old man took me on trips in the woods in his Union oil distributor truck to fuel the loggers up in the woods, I remember how he drove his truck, where he kept his 'important papers' (since he hauled fuel oil he had to have a hazmat licence and their requirement was to keep your important papers in an accessible spot like in a pouch on the door or next to you on your seat.) I remember why he couldnt fill up his fuel truck tanks to the top completely for. Its just weird all the things my dad did I remember easily and going thru these truck driving classes, it all just comes flooding back to me.
Its funny the things you can remember from such a long time back...

When I was a two year old I was playing on my dad's big chair. I climbed on top of the back of the chair. The chair tippled over and I landed face down with my nose on the iron rail of the slide bar bracket. Ouch!!!
The upside of things like this happening when you're a two year old is that you don't remember a thing about it later.

You are most likely a) clicking on the little arrow of the last post or b) possibly the link in "New Posts", in which case they will both take you to the last post (being the newest). If you click the link for the topic instead (NOT in "New Posts" but on the main page), it should take you to the first post in the thread.
Strange. It always leads me to the top of the first page!
See above, which is why you're probably being directed to the first (page/post). If you want to go to the last, click the arrow after a poster's name or the link in New Posts.

Calling a black man a democrat nets the 'racist' term???
I thought calling a Black man a 'conservative' and/or Republican would have netted you the 'racist' term.
Since blacks continue to hassle their own when they are with the Republican party or are Conservative.

So, I was in my Lab Techniques in Immunology class today, and my professor also teaches the Microbiology Lab, so she was talking about how she did a test with some chicken from Wal-Mart. Well, she said she was genuinely disturbed by the amount of bacterial growth that occurred, and she said there were at least seven different types of bacteria she observed growing. The worst part, however, was the fact that one of the bacteria was a spore producer, so even if you cook the chicken thoroughly, you are not going to kill the spores. The only way to kill spores is to autoclave them.
So yeah, that was kind of disturbing.

Not that I have anything against Walmart, I do shop there when needed. But I will never purchase my food in the same place I can get an oil change and a haircut. I refuse to do this, no matter how much convenience I am giving up. I do trust grocery store chicken though, I hope it would have better results than Walmart. Yuck!

NT, if any of the pictures on your avatar (that I have seen, over time) have been actually you, then you DO look like Cheney! If they have all been of Cheney, then I have no idea, but I take your word for it :)

The most comical instance of someone telling me that I looked like Dick Cheney was on a National Review cruise out of San Diego in November 2002:
About half way through the cruise my wife and I were sitting on opposite sides of a table at lunch in the buffet. I noticed that a man sitting at the table behind her kept staring at me. When I got up to get some ice cream at the ice cream bar, the man came up to me and asked me if I was Dick Cheney. I told him, "No." He asked, "Are you sure that you're not Dick Cheney?" I said, "I'm sure that I'm not Dick Cheney." He went away, but I'm not sure that I convinced him.
There were several well-known dignitaries on that cruise - Ken Starr, William F. Buckley, Jr., Milton and Rose Friedman, Cal Thomas, Ward Connerly, Arthur Laffer, and several from the magazine - so I guess that he had seen some of those dignitaries and concluded that I must have been Dick Cheney.
That night Rich Lowry and Jay Nordlinger, from National Review, ate dinner at our table. I told them about that man claiming that I was Dick Cheney. They both agreed that I did look like Cheney. They joked that the man must have thought that that cruise ship was the "undisclosed location" where Cheney was located following the 9/11 attacks. For the rest of the cruise, every time that I met Rich or Jay they would greet me with "Good evening, Mr. Vice President" or "Good night, Mr. Vice President" and we would all have a good laugh.
I've actually been asked if I was "her" and had my autograph asked for, but we don't know who "she" is.

Oh I love it. You can have an entire CD collection stored on what is a small portable unit.
Everything can be organized by artist, album, and so on, so finding what you want is extremely easy, even if you have thousands of songs on it.
It beats having to lug around a CD player and books of CD's.

It comes with software, and the program on it is used to transfer songs you rip off of CD's, or buy from the iTunes store, onto the iPod. You connect the iPod to your computer with USB connection.
As for price, I believe the one I have, the iPod Video, is about $300, but there are other types as well.

Well Rink, depending on how much music you want, I would recomend the Sony Psyc. I bought one last year, it has been working great for me, and it holds about 300 songs. (although I think a bigger version is out now). I bought it from Wal-mart for $99. Personally, it has started getting a little buggy, but it has endured an extremely rough life with me. As far as just a little MP3 player for good songs and small size, I think the Psyc is a great choice. http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:z_7deO22CBn0KM:www.circuitcity.com/IMAGE/product/detail/son/EC.SON.NWE105PSBLU.JPG

Every time I post on this thread, it seems like it's actually not something about me, but someone I know. Ah well, our relationships help define us too. :smirky:
So here's my thing..
I have a friend and co-worker named Boone who is taking the day off today to drive to Madison. He's going to become a U.S. Citizen! I am so very proud of him, and it's wonderful to know that even in light of all the recent clamor over illegal immigration, some of the system still works.
Boone is from Laos and he was one of the so called 'boat people' that fled that country's brutal Communist dictatorship after Vietnam. He's worked very very hard since he came to America and fulfilled all of the requirements, which for those of us who were born here may not realize, are Anything but a walk in the park.. But all that's all done now and he will be taking his oath of citizenship today ~ a very similar oath to the one I have posted in my sig ~ and afterwards he'll become our newest fellow American!
I don't know if he'll ever read this post, but I just wanted to congratulate him and every other American who has had to Earn their Citizenship. Welcome to America!

Random facts...?
I almost got married once... fortunately, the bartender yelled "LAST CALL!" and they refused to sell me any more tequila... pulled my ass outta the fire that time!
I hear voices in my head, but I am not in danger of killing anyone, since the voices don't speak English, I have no way of knowing what they are telling me to do.
I've never made love to a "10", but I did bag a "4" and two "3's" one night.
If it's true that the most important thing in life is happiness... I'm gonna run out real quick and pick me up another case of beer!
I think politically incorrect, racial, ethnic stereotype, and chauvinistic jokes are funny.
I think the British have a far superior sense of humor than most Americans. But their humility is incredibly inferior.
I like to go to movies alone, get a coke, walk into the theater, and sit in a seat right next to a total stranger and just stare straight ahead to see how long it takes them to get uncomfortable and get up and move. When they do, I wait 10 minutes, get up, and go sit right next to them again, staring straight ahead for a few minutes, then I offer them a drink of my coke. This seems to mess with their head, but I find it amusing.
I enjoy going to McDonalds with my friends when they take their kids, so I can coerce the kids into having pickle races on the windows. I've been banned from 2 McDonalds for this, and asked to leave a third for playing in the ball pit with my buddies son (my Godson). Apparently, McDonalds doesn't believe anyone over the age of 12 should enjoy the "stupid things" in life.
I don't hang around with "serious" people. If you can't or won't laugh, or worry that someone may think you're an idiotic fool because you did something stupid in public, I don't have the time to waste. I fully believe that EVERY place can be fun, if you're secure enough to get stupid.
When I am bored, I go to toy stores and play with stuff in the isles. Frisbee catch in the isles with kids, putting the star wars storm trooper masks and running up and down the isles with plastic toy guns, etc. Just to see how long it takes for store employees to catch me and ask me to leave.
I love kids. Not in the same way Michael Jackson loves them... I love the energy and the unpredictable way they'll blurt out the most obvious of truths without thought of "decorum".
I'm gonna drink a beer now.

I quit smoking every night. Right about the time I go to bed. I figure that's enough.
I gave up smoking 20 years ago. I did it in a moment of weakness that I still regret. :(
My wife gave birth to a sweet baby girl a month ago. I now have three sons, a daughter and a beautiful wife. We just moved from Arlington to Keller and are now living in a rental home while our new home is being built.

I can't remember the name of my new SSRI medication, but it works better than the old one, and it might be worth the $50/month copay.

I have been taking Paxil since 2001 and a few times in between I have been switched over to Zoloft but always ended up back on Paxil.
I take it for anxiety, social anxiety and panic attacks etc.
Heres a list of all the SSRIs on the market:

No, she's taking it for the fun of it.
(Sorry, couldn't resist. Had to do with my comment about ADHD in the other thread). I wish you all the best Jag Wife.

Stay away from my mother. She has a very low opinion of Osteopaths. My Dad was an MD. Otherwise, congrats!

Random fact about myself: I enjoy smoking marijuana and believe the government has no business labelling me a criminal for choosing to either possess or cultivate this amazing plant. I'm 36 have no criminal record, run my own business and believe very strongly in the concept of personal liberty.

I found out today that my high school soccer coach died of leukemia. I guess he did not know he even had it, and only started to feel sick enough to seek medical attention a week and a half ago. I liked him. :(
What makes the story all the sadder is the fact his son was excited to have everyone there for when he received an acceptance letter to MIT. My coach died on Friday, and then the letter of acceptance arrived on Saturday.

Me too. I would have to say my most annoying habit is constantly checking and rechecking even if I know for certain it is not necessary.
