I love games like Myst, but I can never find them cheap enough to actually buy. I had Myst for Playstation, but my son didn't like it and took it to Rhino and traded it for another game. Does anyone know if there is a somewhat user-friendly computer version (free, cheap, or online) of a Myst-like game?

I'm practically the only game-player in my home. Well, that's not totally true, my son plays Playstation 2, but he only wants to play war/army/espionage type games now .... he won't play the platform games with me anymore (like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Jak & Daxter, etc.)

I never played that one. I loved Legend of Zelda and Super Mario. :-)

My parents have that one and Riven and love them both. Hasn't the price come down on it now, it's like 5 years old or so...

I have not been able to locate any of the older versions, at least not locally (like at Walmart or Best Buy). The only ones I see at the stores are the newer versions around $29.99 or something like.

I have a few games for my computer, but mostly they are ones my kids play too, like Life, Scrabble, Clue, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Monopoly, etc.

Myst was fun - sort of a Zork-type problem solver with incredibly rich graphics for its time. Kind of a unique game genre - it's hard to think of games to recommend that would be comparable.

I've played PC MMOG's for years such as EQ, EQ2, SWG, DAoC and CoH. Currently playing Pirates and Civilization 3. Also have an Xbox, but thats mostly for the kids - although KOTOR was terrific on Xbox.

I'm in hotels 3-4 nights a week - gaming keeps me out of trouble.

I've never heard of Myst(I'm not really into X-box, nintendoes, arcades, etc). I like computer games a lot, though.

BTW, if you're trying to find that game cheap, try ebay, or something like that.

Around May 30, I said I'd send you my Myst since I don't play it anymore and you gave me your home address. I just plumb forgot.

Are you sure it's THAT hard to find? Here is it with all its sequals and it look like you could buy them all for around fifteen bucks... makes me wish I'd bought mine on Amazon.

For Uru, Revelation and End of Ages, you'll have to have a fast computer... do you?

I don't know if you're on cable or not, but you could try Direct2drive, although they don't have the original Myst, they do have some of the followup games for $9.95.

You buy them online, download them via the net, and then play to your hearts content.

Here's the link for the Myst search I did.

Hope that helps.

And I don't play those games, although my wife does, and she loves the Nancy Drew games as well, some are rather challenging, from what I hear coming from around her computer at times..LOL

Sorry, that was mostly Prima guides and the last 2 Myst games. Myst 3 is there though, and that link is....

Here's the required comp specs for the original Myst:

Windows 3.1 or Windows 95
386DX 33 MHz (486 recommended)
4 MB of RAM (8 MB recommended) for Windows 3.1
8 MB RAM for Windows 95
Super VGA (640 x 480, 256 colors) with compatible drivers
Windows sound device with compatible drivers
CD-ROM drive (double-speed drive or higher recommended)

How times have changed!

It's essentially a DOS-based game. You might have to diddle with it to run it under XP.

The copyrights are 1993 and 1996. It's an antique in computer terms.

Would RuneScape fit the bill?

Peach, I completely forgot about that too! Sheesh -- I think I must be getting mush for brains or something. Perhaps that's what happens to a parent's brain when one of their children turns 16 (you don't expect ME to take the full blame for it, now doya? LOL).

If you can, that's great, it's no big deal. I just thought it would be fun to play -- I liked it when we had it for the Playstation, and thought maybe someone might know a cheap(er) way to get it. Everyone I've encountered on FC so far seems leaps and bounds ahead of me in the computer arena, so I just thought I would try my luck at a possible online or download lead.

Somedays it's better to just leave my brain in that bowl beside the bed, http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/biggrin.gif.

If you need the Myst manual (such as it is), I can scan it and send it your way.

Well that seals it, no WONDER I'm a mental case, LOL.

Doc, you're too good to me, my friend. My tab must be so exorbitant I couldn't possibly ever repay you .... unless ..... YOU want my firstborn (err that would BE the 16 year old, LOL).

He'll probably ask for one of the younger ones... but don't worry, most likely he'll return em' around 13 or 14, he knows by now when they stop being cute.

Homes, no prob. It just doesn't work for me anymore which is why I made sure you had a compatible system that would run it.... and I loved it when I played it. :D

I really am a procrastinator! I'm sending my mom her bday gifts too... 2 months late! At this rate I'll be sending her the Halloween items at Christmas. :D
