Draft Constitution approval underway in Iraq at this minute.

Story here (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,172367,00.html)

Fox News reporting much less violence than expected, even as voters turn out in massive numbers to determine the fate of this new Constitution. Many Sunnis are still opposed to the Constitution, but their leaders have encouraged them to vote "no" rather than sit this one out, and even That is a positive sign. It proves that they've finally grasped the concept of self determination. Once the walls keeping freedom out of a nation begin to fall.. they can Never be rebuilt. :thumb:

Our prayers are with the Iraqi people today, as they decide on their future.

"The march of freedom and democracy . . . will leave Marxism-Leninism on the ash heap of history as it has left other tyrannies which stifle the freedom and muzzle the self-expression of the people." -- Ronald Reagan

I'm sure if the Constitution gets a "no" vote , the lib press will see it as a blow to Bush , not just a step along the path to Iraqi freedom ....

The whole process is still coming along faster than our own Constitution was formed ...

the forming of a new country should not be some fast rough-shod deal ....

this is just another great day in the Irqai Independence move ...

@DPrasse

I'm sure the liberals have already developed spin control no matter how this election goes.. if the constitution is approved, it was "Bush's constitution forced down their throats", if it's turned down, it shows that "Iraqis don't really want freedom."

Liberals simply cannot grasp the reality of what is at stake here.

The results of this vote aren't the important thing. If the constitution fails, the Iraqis will vote again in December for a much larger national election, and their representatives will hash out a better constitution. If it succeeds, it will still be amended later.

The simple fact that Iraqis of Every cultural group (Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis) have ignored the threat of terrorist violence and joined together to embrace their democratic freedom Proves that Freedom is here to stay..

And That is the true victory. :thumb:

Damn right, dPrasse. The fact that Iraqis are voting, either yea or nay, is a revolution in terms of progress in Iraq. I don't remember the year but remember when Saddam was up for re-election against nobody? And he recieved 100% of the vote? Uh huh, yeah.

I agree ErickTheRed...it is a huge step for Iraq. And even though there are still many kinks to be worked out in Iraq, at least the problems and solutions will be decided by the Iraqi people.

Just looked up our Constitutional timeline ...

http://www.usconstitution.net/consttime2.html

from the 9/11/1786 Annapolis Convention convention to the Constitution going into effect 4/3/1789 was 3.5 yrs in the making ... and this was after we had already kicked the Brits out and had a "basic" government in place ... I think the Iraqi's are doing a bang up job !
