MEXICO CITY — Actor Mel Gibson, sporting a long beard and no socks, met with Mexican President Vicente Fox on Wednesday and donated $1 million to help Mexico recover from Hurricane Stan. Fox's office said Gibson asked to meet with Fox because he wanted to help after Hurricane Stan hit the Gulf state of Veracruz, where the actor is filming a movie.

His money, he can do whatever he wants with it. I only object when it's tax dollars they give away.

Y'kno I'm havin a hard time imagining Mel Gibson with the description they gave "Long beard and no socks'

As for what he's doin, he has every right to donate his money to whatever cause he sees fit, as others have stated, as long as Taxpayers monies isnt being 'donated' I couldnt care what Mel Gibson does with his money.

I don't think Gibson needs to worry about greasing any Palms.

You have been to Mexico right? Everyone needs to worry about greasing palms, if you want to get things done.

Regardless, it was made in jest..

Oh I know, I wasn't trying to be arguementative. Gibson wrote a 100 million dollar check to Catholic Charities after the Passion came out, so that was my only point.

Yes I did Mission Work in Mexico 2 summers ago and I am going back this year I think. Last summer I couldn't becasue of graduation, and this past one they did not even go.

I think it's wonderful that Mel donated so much of his own money to people you probably wouldn't have heard about otherwise. The older he gets, the more I like him.

A lot of Mexican officials also think it's wonderful - and so do the luxury auto dealers who they ran out and bought cars from with Mel's money.

 I guess I didn't think of it like that. I don't think he did either. I suppose as corrupt as Mexico appears to be, you're probably right, and despite that, while there is a chance the people it was intended for may not get it, it's still wonderful, he made an effort. What a sad world if no one took a chance and tried to do good. We can't all just quit right?:shame:

i've been to mexico a dozen times (the town of uringato of the state Guanajuato, my grandparents live there during the holidays , most of my grandmas siblings(she has 11 other brothers/sisters) live there , well i can say i probally have over 200 relatives there .

it pisses me off some people here seem to think donating to charity (a disaster relief cause) is bad  , some christians you are , hipocrates , or wait maybe if their skin color was different you wouldnt have a problem :shake: , or maybe u think mexican citzens who never leave mexico should be left to die and starve for what the bad mexicans(Illegals) do .
if the hurricane had hit somewhere like germany you people wouldnt be complaining . maybe it isnt racism at all , you didnt bitch about the tsunami that attacked islamofacists . for a long time i thought Racism was only seen in the Democratic Party :flame:

i'd estimate about between 33% to 75% of it will go to Vicentes Pork Programs .
if it werent for the Illegal immigration issue people would realize Vicente is Conservative like GWB , Vicentes party is very similar to our GOP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Action_Party_%28Mexico%29
that is probally also why fox and bush get along well until 2003 with the invasion of Iraq . PAN is basicly a Pro-illegal and Isolationalist version of the GOP . we are actually lucky Fox is in power , it could be some Dip shit Commie in power or the Old PRI dictators of Mexico and eitherway none of mexicos major political partys will do anything about the borders just like here .

Republican Legion I don't think anyone here wants people in Mexico to suffer. I do think Mel would have been better served spending the 1 Million on actual relief items and making sure they were handed out to those that need them, instead of giving cash to Fox.

He's making a movie there. It's in his best interests to have some hurricane relief.

I wouldn't give mexico a single solitary counterfeit penny.
