View Full Version : ? About Selling Stuff On The Net

I have recently begun a new venture (or at least I think I am, LOL). I have been trying my hand at faux stained glass. I have made one piece, and it turned out really good. I am in the process of working on three others (2 for Warlady, and 1 for my MIL for Christmas). I think, if they turn out as well as I expect, that I just may have a product that I can actually sell and make a little extra money for our household.
SO, that brings up my next question. Does anyone have any experience with selling on the net? How much websites cost? Taxes and so forth, and working with, like, paypal?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row to see if this is something that could actually be workable for me. I know I could put together some stuff for local craft shows and consignment shops, but it would be nice to do some pieces by order. This way I don't have to have such a huge inventory (and investment initially).
When I get my pieces done, I'll post some pics and y'all can tell me what you think! http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Ebay is a great place to start

Paypal is a very secure and easy way to recieve and send payments...

Good luck, I am starting an online business, and will probably use Ebay, as well as my own commercial websites, of which I own 3 right now.
If you would like help in that, I would be more then happy to steer you in the proper direction.
I pay less then $10 a month for ALL of my websites combined, really is a killer deal.
Then again, I build my own websites, so I don't need help in that regard. I take care of everything, so they don't need to help me with anything except keeping the servers online and the websites backed up.

Yes, i would certainly be interested in the information. I have a "website," (:smirky: ) but it's with my space on AOL and I don't think they let you use AOL sites for selling things. I have put together the site on my own, and I did put together a church website (as well as a personal one) on Homestead.com before they went so commercial. I think I might be able to make and maintain my own site ... I am certainly going the cheaper-is-better route, at least at the beginning because I don't know what I'm doing yet, .
With Ebay, do I have to have the product/item already made, then take a picture and sell it by auction? I was kind of hoping to take special orders (after showing a few pieces like in a gallery on my website).
If you don't mind, Aric, I'm sure I'll have quite a few questions, :smirky: .

Aric, you should see some of the samples and stencils I've been able to find. If mine turn out anything like those (I'm going to change them somewhat to make them originals), then I know I'll have a good chance of really making some money for our household. My first one was definitely a success. I'll post pics of the one's I'm working on now as soon as I finish them (taking it slower on them because they are more detailed that the first).
I have always had an artistic streak, and always wanted to do something with it (really want to be an animationist!) -- at least now I can work in my chosen field, have fun, and still stay home with the children till their schooling is through (1-1/2 years for son, 4-1/2 for daughter, but it's going to be SOOO worth it. Son is ACEing dual enrollment!)

Dolphins are evil. They're smug and they think they're better then us.
Dolphins - you're on notice.
