Repentant Owens apologizes to Eagles, coach and fans

NEW Y0RK (Reuters) - Philadelphia Eagles outspoken wide receiver Terrell Owens apologized to his team mates, management and fans on Tuesday, extending an olive branch a day after being told he would never play for the team again.

"As you know, I have been suspended and told that I cannot play football for the rest of the season," offered a contrite Owens, reading from a prepared statement in front of his home.

"I am a football player and this is what I do.

"It really hurts me not to be part of the team anymore. I came here to help the Eagles get to the Super Bowl and win the big game."

The Eagles suspended Owens for four games on Monday for conduct detrimental to the team and said the wide receiver would not be welcomed back after his suspension has been completed.
