I'm a huge South Park fan. I taped this episode but haven't yet seen it. I have seen Bill Donohue. I always expect his head to explode.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue remarked today about last night’s episode of “South Park” (it will run again for the next three nights):
"A 'South Park' character gets a DWI and is ordered to attend AA meetings. Told about the 12-step program, he concludes that he needs a miracle to cure him..." More (http://www.catholicleague.org/05press_releases/quarter%204/051208_south_park.htm)

I have seen Bill Donohue. I always expect his head to explode.Somebody's head should. It's execrable on TWO levels.
I have always hated south park becuase of their anti-Christian slant.

MSGT-
I don't think they necessarily have an anti-CHRISTIAN slant as much as an anti-EVERYTHING slant, and if the writers perceive something from Christianity as really screwy, then they make fun of it, but no more than they do anything (everything!) else. For example, did you see the episode about the Scientologists? Very much worth watching, and they did a VERY accurate portrayal of what Scientologists actually believe.
The episode about the Virgin Mary ... recently it's been trendy to find the image of the Virgin in anything and everything, and there's been a couple incidents of her statues crying, etc., that have been debunked. (In one recent case, the "tears" were determined to have actually been bird crap that dripped the wrong way, rather than any sort of miracle!)

I rarely miss an episode...
This one was aptly titled "Bloody Mary" ...the spin was on AA and quick-fix "cures"...
South Park off-colorfully says what so many think, yet are too afraid to admit.
You have to sit and watch it knowing that you're gonna cringe...while secretly laughing your @$$ off

I would rather watch potassium nitrate grow on a dog turd than watch any crap dealing with South Park. Can we get back to Loony Tunes already?
I concur Wolfie, I prefer the Loony tunes any day :thumb:

Looney Toons are politically incorrect, don't you know? South Park isn't. Such is the state of our decaying culture that Speedy Gonzales is deemed insensitive, but foul-mouthed brats are AOK.

South Park goes out of its way to be Politically Incorrect......'tis why I like it so.

As with this business of the defiling of the mother of God......honestly, who gives this stuff the green light? Someone up there said Southpark says what we all think but are too afraid to say. What?! *dingdingdingdingDINGDINGDINGdingdingding* Awww, there goes the logic train. Missed it again? Thought so. I've never thought of the Virgin Mary in any other way than saying that she gave birth to the Messiah. How have you thought of her?

I've never watched that show. I think it's stupid and doesn't do anyone a bit of good.

I watch it for laughs, but look at the TV station it runs on. Left Wing programing across the board. The daily show, the colbert report, ect.

The show has LeftWing shock-value presentation...
But you'd be very surprised to find how RightWing the plots actually are.
The show in question was about taking personal responsibility for bad choices...versus being "the helpless victim"
It was just presented in lefty-speak.
It's very funny if you don't CHOOSE to take it so seriously.
I'm not saying it's not offensive and over the top (often)... but I expect no less... It's a very funny show that offends everyone.

That it does.. But better to offend all, rather than some.

Hah, that episode was hilarious, especially the very ending of it when that whale is there dead on the moon.
Anyway, I have yet to watch this latest episode; however, I have it recorded on TIVO.
<O:p
Oh, and to anyone who has yet to see the Scientology episode, it is a must see. Absolutely brilliant.

I agree with KellyCrew... if one watches the show in the format it is intended, it can be hilarious. It's not everybody's cup of tea and if you're easily offended, skip the show.
For me, it cracks me up when they go after the radical enviroweenies:
"Each year, the Rainforest is responsible for over three thousand deaths from accidents, attacks or illnesses. There are over seven hundred things in the Rainforest that cause cancer. Join the fight now and help stop the Rainforest before it's too late."
"It's an Afghanistan goat, so it can't stay here, or else it'll choke on the sweet air of freedom."
"People like you preach tolerance and openmindedness all the time but when it comes to middle America you think we're all evil and stupid country yokels who need your political alignment. Just because you're on TV doesn't mean you know crap about the government." -- Mr. Garrison yelling at Rosie O'Donnell
"Dude, dolphins are intelligent and friendly!" -- Wendy
"Intelligent and friendly on rye bread, with some mayonaise." -- Cartman
I missed the Scientology episode. :(

I'm not easily offended. I just find South Park nauseating, and boring beyond belief.
I don't think they necessarily have an anti-CHRISTIAN slant as much as an anti-EVERYTHING slantYep. They go out of their way to be as offensive as possible. That's the appeal of the show.I watch it for laughs, but look at the TV station it runs on. Left Wing programing across the board. Remember that Parker & Stone's "Team America" went after anti-war nuts very hard. They even made Michael Moore into a suicide bomber.

South Park is a good measuring stick for just how stupid our society has become... To all those who waste their time and kill off their brain cells watching sh!t like that!

I think SP is boring. Bunch a shitty drawn toons dropping the F bomb. And I stopped watching Team America halfway through so it would quit robbing me of my precious earth seconds. Sue me.
(okay, in TA whenever the marionettes started fighting, that was funny. those little flailing arms. heh heh)

Most if not all of those "adult" animated shows are pretty much trash IMO. I am so glad my son never wanted to watch them.
Simpsons
Family Guy
South Park
American Dad (I think it's called)
All have mocked Christians and Conservative values. I won't invite them into my living room. Two other tv shows we don't watch in my house are Saturday Night Live and Mad TV.

I miss the days of good old fashioned wholesome television shows like The Waltons, Red Skelton, I Married Joan, things like that.
I think the Simpsons is pro-family and Christian. The others are dumb, I agree. The Simpsons really do make me laugh, though

I don't know jag, Homer is not what I would call a "stand up dad" and Bart Simpson oy. Then there are the ambiguous homo themes and PC stuff. I don't see Christianity in The Simpsons at all.
Do you mean to imply I should stop choking my kids?? :smirky:

MadTV good.
SNL lame.
Simpsons good.
South Park trying too hard.
Colbert Report writing good, politics in the tank.
Conan Obrien Show good.
Leno pre-packaged baby formula.
Did I miss anything?

My personal favorite was that (short-lived) show with Colin Quinn:
Colin Quinn's most recent work was on Comedy Central called "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn". An "in-your-face" discussion forum held with other stand-up comedians. TCCG ran for 3 seasons before ending without reason as most shows do. A personal fan of TCCG I was sad to see it go. Colin Quinn (http://www.colinquinn.net/)

And as far as The Colin Quinn Show, yeah, it was good. Seems you and I have nearly the same hahaha palate.

Can't be uptight all the time :-p Sometimes you just need to relax and laugh at something stupid. If you miss the good ol'days of TV, I think TV Land or one of those stations has the older shows on them. I still like the Honeymooners :-) and All in the family.

Jon Stewart..
Crappy politics but very funny dude.
I'm surprised that you don't like South Park...
Have you watched more than just the movie?.. (which was exceptionally over the top)
The show may be vulgar, but it's very clever under the surface.
Each episode has at least 3 storylines....all veiled in deeper meaning
The episode about sexual harassment is classic.
Gerald, a lawyer, is Kyle's father. Recently Gerald has made a whole lot of money representing just about everyone in South Park in frivolous lawsuits stemming from "sexual harrassment":
<table> <tbody><tr><td>Gerald:</td><td>[Kyle arrives] Well? What do you think, Kyle? </td></tr><tr><td>Kyle:</td><td>Dad? Don't you think our last new house is big enough? </td></tr><tr><td>Gerald:</td><td>Well, this one is BIGGER! </td></tr><tr><td>Kyle:</td><td>Tomorrow's trial, Everyone vs. Everyone, is gonna make things a lot worse! We have to stop it! </td></tr><tr><td>Gerald:</td><td>[kneels] Kyle, let me explain something to you. </td></tr><tr><td>Kyle:</td><td>[annoyed, looks askance] Hoh God, here we go. </td></tr><tr><td>Gerald:</td><td>You see, Kyle, we live in a liberal, democratic society. And Democrats make sexual harassment laws. These laws tell us what we can and can't say in the workplace. And what we can and can't do in the workplace. </td></tr><tr><td>Kyle:</td><td>Isn't that fascism? </td></tr><tr><td>Gerald:</td><td>No, because we don't call it fascism. Do you understand? </td></tr><tr><td>Kyle:</td><td>Do you? </td></tr><tr><td>Gerald:</td><td>[rises] Just look at how big this house is, Kyle. Just look at it.</td></tr></tbody> </table>

Oh, when the virgin mary is the butt of jokes
Bad
But when Athiests, Scientologists, Mormons, and JEWS are the butts of jokes
Just peachy
True Christians will NOT have a problem with this episode. Why? Because it was NOT the Virgin Mary that was being ridiculed, it was the people idolizing a STATUE and the non-miracle (not going to spoil the episode).
It was a STATUE!!! Sure, it was gross and the message from the Pope was a bit over the top BUT it made the story.

Hah, yes! I watch all of these. My avatars come from “Family Guy” actually.
Anyway, anyone else watch “Arrested Development?” That is the best comedy on television today in my opinion. FOX is canceling it though. :( However, there are rumors floating around about the possibility of it getting picked up by Showtime or ABC. :)
