I remember as a kid 23 years ago, walking into an Army/Navy store in Bellows Falls, Vermont, and dropping $14 for a knife that I thought was kool. For 23 years, it went to Desert Storm, camping and spent much of my adult life in my sock drawer.
Today, I learned just what I had, an M96 Swedish military bayonet. "You've taken good care of it I see," said my friend who researched it for me.

The second picture down, bottom knife is the one I have. It's quite menacing up close.

I'll be taking much better care of it now that I know what I really have.

I've got one of those too. What is it worth? I bought mine while deployed to Germany some years back at a local flee market outside Baumholder GE. Cost me a few marks.

Don't know, Bird. I bought mine in an Army/Navy store 23 years ago for $14. I haven't cleaned it up yet but it's nicely put away in my top dresser drawer.

Man when I was a kid the Army/Navy store was the source for the most amazing stuff... They had bayonets by the buckets... WW2 German helmets were a dime a dozen... And you could get those really great all-steel mess kits and canteens (with the fitted cups)...

Now its hard to find a REAL military surplus store anywhere... I saw a Vietnam era steel pot helmet (with leaf patter camoflage cover) in an antique shop the other day and I bought it just because they are getting so rare...
