Actually, isn't bourgeoisie simply another name for the businesspeople? And weren't many of the Jews in Germany successful businesspeople--again, the bourgeoisie?

Yep, and so are a great deal of successful "business people." For being such a small minority, they do (throughout the world) understand wealth and how to acquire it. I personally think that their historical experiences have taught them the lesson that wealth can be quite transient, but the family, remains family and a source of strength.

The ostentatious display of wealth such as the purchase of furs, diamonds and gold for their wives is actually assuring the asset base of portable wealth to start a new business in case they have to flee to a new sanctuary.
