Louisiana resident files recall petition against Gov. Blanco
<!-- BEGIN MEDIA BOX NUMBER 1 --> <!-- END MEDIA BOX NUMBER 1 --> BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- A formal push to oust Gov. Kathleen Blanco, after harsh criticism of her response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita, began Tuesday when a St. Martinville resident filed a recall petition with Louisiana's elections office.
The task is a tough one: in Louisiana, a recall election requires handwritten petition signatures from at least one-third of the state's registered voters, or about 900,000 people, in 180 days, according to Jennifer Marusak of the secretary of state's office.
The 180-day period began Tuesday, when the petition was filed, she said.
Then, a majority of voters in a recall election would have to vote to get rid of Blanco, a Democrat, before she would be forced out of office.

I'm against recalls. They elected her, so they have to live with her until the next election comes around. Take responsability for your votes, people!

I disagree, S-T: Yes voters elected her, but they also believed she would act responsibly in a crisis--she didn't. I'd sign if I could.

Edit--actually Nagin is the one who should be recalled!!

Then vote her out next time.

Too many, especially on the state and local levels feel like after the election they can do as they please. I say yank her chain. Besides she was elected to yank the chain of the state pubs, who weren't doing what they said they would do.

 I'm in favor of recalls. This one sounds like an uphill battle, but I wish them success.

Actually, they still have a couple hundred thousand democrat voters spread all over the country.

:smirky: That shouldn't slow down the petition, which will mostly attract Republicans.

Lousinanna has been 'RED' since 2000 and 1 of its senators is a repub and the other 1 is a pro-life democrat. The people who left New Orleans were vast majority democrats. Blanco is a Democrat in a red state that just lost a bunch of democrat voters, she is vurnable as hell.

If the recall campaign runs ads attacking blanco as a Liberal democrat trying to impose her will on the conservative Lousinana people and label her as a lazy dixiecrat/racist who is corupt. Then I dont see why people in a red state will want a blue state bitch.

That's exactly what a recall does -- you say you made a mistake and now you're gonna fix it. Just suffering thru is ludicrous when there's something you can do to right a wrong. You're advocating, "No, don't get that broke ankle set. Take responsibility for stepping off that curb wrong!"

I wish NY had a recall law... But thank you Gov. Rockafeller for taking that away from us to.... I think recalls should be allowed. If a populace votes for somebody and they don't live up to the office then they should be removed. It's one thing to try and remove someone for raising taxes... Its another to remove them so they don't destroy your state...

 Landrieu is pro-life? Since when?

 Landrieu is pro-life? Since when?

The last few years she has shown change

She's helped get john roberts on to the SCOTUS.
She helped janice rogers brown get appointed to federal judge status.

Its obvious that she's trying to show Lousinanians that she's mildly pro-life and she wouldnt do that unless lousinana is a conservative state.
With less democrats in New Orleans she is gonna have to vote yes for Alito or her republican opponnet in 08 will use her vote on Alito as ammo.

Landrieu lied about being pro-life. Her voting record in the senate is decidedly pro-abortion.

Vitter is the first 'pub that LA has sent to the upper chamber in 125 years.

But with most of NO gone, a recall petition might be doable if they work hard as dogs for the 180 days. They might consider challenging the number of signatures required since so much of the population is scattered. It's the remainder that's trending 'pub, so that helps.

I wish them luck.
