It may seem premature, but after a single day of questioning it seems Alito is even more effective in disarming the skulking democrats. Like some bad rendition of Lord of the Rings, these Smeagels are speaking gibberish to themselves.
"We;s wants it, we's wants the Court ring"
"Evil Ruppits; they steals it, they steals what it ours".
(To themselves) "Nobody likes yoouuuu".
"They (public) knowwsss they knows we lies...theys hates us"
"Nasty Ruppits, filthy Ruppits, we's needs to kill them".
Still, we need not worry about these swamp dwellers. It seems ages ago when Robert Bork faced a savaging by these creatures - the rhetoric no longer works. The tired crys and smears of these tortured souls no longer have a believing audience.
Why? Because the debate has moved on. Conservatives no longer appear evil; they appear articulate, circumspect, and careful. Their ideas no longer seem "out of the mainstream", but common sense...the democrats are tired. They have hurled their biggist rocks, all have bounced off Alito like so much confetti.
While "originalism" has not been formally discussed, the decks have been cleared. A next nomination, if there is one, by Bush would sail through a Republican Senate...if there is one.
Masterful. We can only hope these little gollums will try to filibuster - it will be their grave.
