Why doesn't he retire?
Israel will not do business with Pat Robertson after the evangelical leader suggested Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's massive stroke was divine punishment for the Gaza withdrawal, a tourism official said Wednesday.
Robertson is leading a group of evangelicals who have pledged to raise $50 million to build a large Christian tourism center in Israel's northern Galilee region, where tradition says Jesus lived and taught. More (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060111/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_robertson_2)

Don't know if this is accurate or not but I heard that Robertson claims that his comments were taken out of context and that he was referring to what Hamas had said about Sharon. Can anyone confirm that info?

Any time a public figure says their offensive/irresponsible/incriminating comment was "taken out of context" they're lying. Put on your bullshit filter and he's saying "Crap. I'm busted."

The other night Fox News played his comments and I have to agree with Rudeguy....he's now just sorry about getting caught...
He didn't just talk about Sharon he talked about other leaders of Israel...he was not taken out of context.....

Raving loons with a national stage to share their insanity never retire.
I'm just surprised more people don't abandon the old coot and leave him to his ramblings. The problem is too many people actually listen to this wack-job.

I don`t blame them. Robertson is a religious fundamentalist and the ME has enough whack jobs without the need for any more.

I'm also a "religious fundamentalist" and one of the most ardent supporters of Israel on this board. In fact, evangelical/fundamentalist Christians are more strongly supportive of Isreal than the majority of Jews.
Main Entry: fun·da·men·tal·ism
Pronunciation: -t&l-"i-z&m
Function: noun
1 a often capitalized : a movement in 20th century Protestantism emphasizing the literally interpreted Bible as fundamental to Christian life and teaching
b : the beliefs of this movement
c : adherence to such beliefs
2 : a movement or attitude stressing strict and literal adherence to a set of basic principles
- fun·da·men·tal·ist /-t&l-ist/ noun
That doesn't sound evil to me, but one would never know it from reading the crap of the Christian-bashers.
