They're getting closer and closer to telling something of the truth about the Civil War.

I thought the story line of Gettysburg was a bit better but the acting job done by the fella who played Stone Wall Jackson was the best of both. I have watched both movies 3 times each.

Another acting job I liked in Gettysburg was (I think Jeff Bridges) who played the part of Samuel Lawrence Chamberlain, who commanded the 4th Maine Division.

The movie dragged for me and I fell asleep. I'm awful, I know. I'll have to give it another try eh? :)

Diane,

For me it was the opposite -- the others in the family fell asleep, and I was spellbound throughout the entire movie. Thought it was absolutely excellent -- which was a real surprise to me. Of course, we watched it rather close to everyone else's bedtime, so that probably is why the others drifted and dozed. I think I'm goint to rent if for a week and have the kids watch it again in small parts.
Never saw Gettysburg, will have to rent it.

DH & I first saw God's and Generals on the big screen when it was released. We both loved it and were extremely moved...and surprised that anything involving T. Turner would have a relatively positive outlook towards Christianity and the South during the Civil War. We thought it was a balanced and fairly accurate portrayal.

I have also seen Gettysburg several times. It always seems to drag a bit and IMHO isn't as good as God's and Generals. Stonewall was an excellent character!

DH & I also love watching history documentaries, etc.

It was Jeff DANIELS who played Chamberlain.

It was Stephen Lang who played Thomas "stonewall" Jackson,he played General Pickett in the first movie. The man is a very good actor!

Sam Elliot was very good in his short role in Gettysburg. He played as General Buford.

I thought both movies quite good and reasonably accurate historically too.

There is one more movie left to make to complete the trilogy.

It could be that the subject is just not that interesting to you?

I liked it because it took it's time showing the events surrounding Jackson. It made him more interesting when the situation around him is explained to some detail. It is true that the South was Fired up for independance, the movies showed that well and also the Northern feelings about it.

Maybe you try again with a large pot of Coffee next to you.

Knowing that the movie was made by Ted Turners entertainment company, I steered clear of this one.

Basically from what I heard anyway it was a cleaned up version of what war really is.

Basically a movie that Social Studies elementary students can watch at school.

Sorry Home. I didn't see this until the thread was renewed. Yes, that's part of my problem. I watched it close to bedtime. Zzzzzzzz.......
