Oswego Mayor John Gosek spent most of the weekend and Monday morning under house arrest in his Oswego residence after a Saturday afternoon hearing in the James M. Hanley Federal Building in Syracuse. Gosek was there to answer a charge of using his city-issued cell phone to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce minors to engage in sexual acts.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit filed in U.S. District Court, Gosek is alleged to have paid $250 for sex with two 15-year-old girls. It was further alleged in court Saturday that he used that same cell phone to make arrangements for sexual encounters with several women, some of them underage, over the course of the investigation. Some of the calls allegedly involved promises of money and/or drugs for sex. One allegation is that he offered drugs to a known recovering drug addict for sex, the affidavit states. It was revealed Saturday that Gosek had been under investigation by the New York State Police since late 2004. State police recorded conversations between the mayor and a 14-year-old female. It is alleged that he offered drugs to the minor for sex. The FBI was brought in this past April and got permission to tap the mayor’s city-owned cell phone. Cell-phone use is considered a means of interstate commerce, hence the involvement of federal law-enforcement. Gosek is alleged to have called a third party (identified by the court only as an "adult female drug user who lives in central New York") several times to set up an arrangement between himself and two minors for a sexual encounter. After the authorities caught her on tape, they approached her Thursday and questioned her about the arrangement. She admitted to the plan and agreed to work with the authorities as a confidential witness. She was wearing a digital recording device when she met Gosek Friday at a North Syracuse bar. While there, Gosek reportedly gave her $250 and made plans to drive separately to a hotel. There, she told, him, they would meet two "very good looking" 15-year-old girls, the affidavit states.

Needless to say my city has been through 2 mayors and 2 police chiefs in 4 months... The police chief had his home ransacked by the FBI for stealing impounded property such as: jet-ski's, snowmobiles and ATV's.
