First, please allow me to say this is the prettiest of pictures at this site's portal. I am buried, still (sigh) in snow, but the crocus are blooming underneath or will be soon.

I am not a gardener, nothing but rocks and mosquitoes here, but I have learned a few things over the decades when I lived with real soil.

The best garden I ever had, for yield and beauty was by following the signs of the horoscope and the cycles of the Moon. Every three or so days, the Moon moves into a new sign; the sequence, fire; earth; air; and water, starting with Aries and ending with Pisces.
When the Moon is in a fire or air sign, pull weeds and cull.
When the Moon is in an earth or water sign, plant and propagate.
(pull one weed in a water sign and three pop up to replace it!)

Plant above ground stuff (flowers) in the waxing crescent or gibbous Moon and underground things (beets) after the Moon is full and is waning in crescent or gibbous.

A Farmer's Almanac has the listings of the Moon phases and signs.

Just a little hint for those who may not have tried this.
