I've watched our blow-dried governor's reelection ad for the umpty-umpth time. At least, I've seen the beginning of the ad. As a rule, I keep the remote in my hand for just such an occasion. It's no secret to Longhorn and others that I scorn, despise and loathe that toad.

In any case, he's running for a chance to stay in Austin instead of College Station for another four years (can you blame him?) and he has challengers, for lack of a better term. I started this thread to invite comparisons and contrasts between the candidates for this seat as well as the others.

Love him or hate him, if I were a betting man, I'd bet on the man from Aggieland. Carole Keeton Strayhorn Rylander Etcetera Etcetera Etcetera decided to run as an independent instead of trying to wrest the nomination from Perry. She won't win, but she may draw votes away from Perry. Probably not very many. The Democrats have two candidates running in the primary. How bad are things for them?

ELECTIONS '06AUSTIN – In a measure of how far Texas Democrats have fallen, singer Kinky Friedman has raised three times as much campaign money in his independent bid for governor as the two top Democratic candidates combined.

Former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell raised $355,000 in the last six months, and one-time state Supreme Court Justice Bob Gammage collected $67,000, according to campaign finance reports filed Tuesday with the state.
By comparison, Mr. Friedman, the mystery novelist and singer-songwriter who's running his first race for statewide office, reported raising $1.5 million between July and December. This was reported by the Dallas Morning News on Kinky Friedman's web site. http://www.kinkyfriedman.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=206&Itemid=27

If an absolute clown like Kinky can raise money THREE TIMES as much money as the Democrats, what does this tell you? Day-yum! I was hoping someone like Roger Staubach would run for the nomination. I don't know about other groups, but Perry's name is used as an expletive in faculty lounges. Seems to me he'd be pitiful easy to knock out.

Considering his opposition, Perry looks like a shoo-in for reelection. I will certainly vote for him.

If Carol Keeton Strayhorn were really the "one tough grandma" she claims to be, she wouldn't have chickened out of running against Perry in the Republican Primary.

 Troy Aikman could move into the governor's mansion, for the asking. I can't imagine why he doesn't put his name on the ballot.

 Troy Aikman could move into the governor's mansion, for the asking. I can't imagine why he doesn't put his name on the ballot. Two reasons: 1. He's rich. 2. He wants to live in peace.

:smirky: Where's the fun in that?

Perry is only weak with teachers. He is a popular Govenor (For no real apparent reason) and he will easily win re-election
