What did I get? I got a birthday on a MONDAY!
Well, it coulda been worse. Next year, assuming I survive THIS school year, I'll turn a half-century. At least I know it won't fall on a Monday. What's the cycle, every seven years? Anyway, my two older kids took me out to eat. My daughter and I each had chicken-fried steak. I left stuffed as a tick. My wife is always behind, but she assures me she'll have my next Hawaiian shirt by Valentine's Day. She picked fabric with Snoopy all over it knowing how much I revere Charles Schulz and his memorable cast.
Once again, my deepest thanks to all. Tell Wyatt I checked out the Cliff's Notes of Huckleberry Finn, but I can't seem to find the poems that Emmaline Grangerford wrote after the style of Julia Moore, the Sweet Singer of Michigan. That part always brings tears to my eyes with laughter.

boat I didn't know you were a snoopy fan. I love Woodstock. That's my favorite bird in the whole world. Is he totally cool or what?

Totally! ALL his characters are archetypes. IMHO, Charles Schulz was the greatest and most gifted cartoonist of all time, because he was far more than a mere cartoonist - he was a philosopher at heart.
In a book by collaborator Lee Mendelson, A Charlie Brown Christmas : The Making of a Tradition (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060198516/ref=cm_aya_asin.title/102-5267160-9888955?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance), he recalls the reaction of Bill Melendez to the scene in which Linus says to his exasperated friend, "I know what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown," then walks onstage to recite the Nativity narrative from the Gospel of St. Luke: "When I first looked at that part of the story, I told Sparky [Schulz], 'We can't do this. It's too religious.' And he said to Bill , 'if we don't do it, who else can? We're the only ones who can do it.'"
Forgive me if I have to wipe tears from my face every time I write about this.

I had no idea you were a fan! He played tennis with my parents in Scottsdale in the '70s. Dad also helped him with his divorce from Joyce in '72. He used to give me these cute little windup toys (Peanuts characters of course!)
BTW Snoopy is my favorite. :D Sounds like you had a great bday!

Happy Belated birthday, Boat! I couldn't agree more, the Peanuts Christmas special is one of the finest shows ever made in my view.
