A ranking Louisiana health official turned down federal offers to help move or evacuate patients as Hurricane Katrina bore down on New Orleans, a newly released document shows.
But the state's top medical officer said Louisiana coordinated with the federal Health and Human Services Department in evacuating hospitals and nursing homes after Katrina hit.
Two days before the Aug. 29 storm, HHS was told by the state's health emergency preparedness director that the help was not needed, according to an e-mail released Monday by a Senate panel investigating the government's response to Katrina.
The state official, identified in the Aug. 27 e-mail as Dr. Roseanne Pratts, "responded no, that they do not require anything at this time and they would be in touch if and when they needed assistance," wrote HHS senior policy analyst Erin Fowler

O but its STILL Bush's fault for not acting FAST enough dontcha know?
You're throwing facts here the libs cannot digest, the only thing in their minds thats important is to constantly and consistently blame Bush repeatedly over their ineptitude.

No..that's not it! It's Bush's fault for the hurricane itself, via his opposition to the whole "global warming" issue! He caused the hurricane, knowing that nothing could save some of these people!
Well, and of course he should be able to mandate every city's budget needs and allocate them while running a country. He failed them.
Why is everyone so hell bent on blaming that man for everything anyway? Don't they realize that he cannot be re-elected??
these people are psychotically obsessed with 'getting back at Bush' they dont care bout any re-elections, they want to tear him down and trash his standing in American history.
They wanna destroy not only him but his legacy.

I have to ask everyone here a question regarding this thread: Is turning down the feds' help a bad thing or a good thing? I'm pretty sure we all agree that the scariest thing to come out of anyone's mouth is, "I'm with the federal government, and I'm here to help."
I have to assume, therefore, that this is meant to defuse criticism from the Democrats, who never met a man who DIDN'T need federal assistance.
its a bad thing when after the fact when the hurricaine happened NO started whining incessatnly about the lack of help when they begged & pleaded for it, when in reality they refused the help in the first place.
The hypocrisy stinks quite highly over this issue.

When it comes to saving lives, accept help, even from the Feds.
I don't think the point really should be whether they accept Federal help or not. The point seems to be, stop blaming the Federal governement when you turned down their offers to help. Live with the consequences of that decision and stop passing the blame when it turns out that you really needed that help you turned down.
Or, perhaps I am way off base..argh.
