There now ... nominating a conservative to the Supreme Court wasn't that scary, was it? Hey, who wants to go again?

Democrats have the most exaggerated reputation for fearsomeness since Saddam Hussein's vaunted "Elite Republican Guard" -- the ones who ran like scared schoolgirls when U.S. forces toppled Iraq in 17 days flat.

A few years ago, the Democrats wouldn't allow a vote on Bush's Hispanic, black and female judicial nominees. Sen. Bill Frist was afraid of what the Democrats might do, so he backed down. Scary Democrats! And not just Joe Biden's hair plugs -- all of them were scary to Sen. Frist!

The nominations languished, and eventually some of the nominees, like Miguel Estrada, withdrew their names.

Then a Republican lawyer on the Judiciary Committee, Manuel Miranda, found memos Democrats left on open computer files proving that the Democrats were targeting Bush's Hispanic nominees like Miguel Estrada solely because they were Hispanic.

What do you suppose the Democrats would have done if they ever found a memo by Republican Senate staffers opposing Ruth Bader Ginsburg, say, because she was Jewish?

For reasons I still don't understand, instead of these memos being the Democrats' scandal, they became the Republicans' scandal. Democrats were outraged that Miranda had not chastely refused to read the memos Democrats had stupidly left on open files. Consequently, Frist fired Miranda.

Ann is absolutely right about Republicans being afraid of democrats. And the worst part is that there is no reason they should be!

Things are changing, it seems ... one can only hope.

If having a Republican president and a majority in both the house and the senate does not give Republicans enough confidence, I don't know what the bloody hell will.

I think she's exaggerating just a bit. We have been winning the battles left and right. Bottom line is Bush got most of his judges through in spite of the hard left whackos in the Senate. What surprises me about Ann's rant is that she KNOWS the procedural rules of the Senate and what the majority party has to go through when the minority party uses them to block the majority. Just because the Republicans have a majority doesn't mean they have a filibuster proof majority. We need 60 strong Republicans for that. And when you don't have that you have to use diplomacy. I know it sucks. But the reason Tommy Daschle lost his reelection bid was due to his obstructionism. Their obstructionist behavior will continue to cost them. I'm enjoying it.

The problem with the GOP is that the party has been loaded with RINOS. IN THE 40 YEARS THAT THE DEMOCRATS RULED, the GOP had to let those who could accomplish a little dicker with the democRATS. Therefore, those of RINO inclination became the power elite within the GOP since they could get the crumbs from the table! Thus BOB DOLE, the Senate GOP leader was tagged as the tax raiser for the democRAT PARTY!

Too many of them now have the philosophy, of "Fairness, Get along, and we can maintain our positions and power!" Personally, I have seen damned little out of the GOP and Zilch out of the democRAT party that considers the health of the Nation, State and polity! Unfortunately, both parties consider "well being" as how much tax money they can distribute in order to be re-elected!

Damned few of those sitting in either house of Congress put the needs of this nation before the demands of self interest. RON PAUL being a notable exception!
