It is St. Barts. I was there about 20 years ago.

It is a tiny, beautiful island about 15 miles from St. Maarten, and known for its watersports, hotels and restaurants. Ironically, it is not known for good scuba diving. It has a fascinating history: for 150 years it was the only Swedish island in the Caribbean, and many of the buildings and streets are still Scandinavian (the capital is Gustavia). It has no indigenous water, so water is shipped in. Consequently, it has no history of plantations or slavery.

France controls it today. Most of the locals are Normans, so the local culture and food are friendly, easy, "country French", not the arrogant, snobbish Parisian culture.

The airstrip is tiny, about 2,800 feet if I remember, with a hill on one side. The other end of the runway ends at the shoreline. There was a fatal crash a few years ago, when one of the commuter planes got too low on approach and hit the hill.
