Unemployment Rate Falls to 4.7 Percent

(CNSNews.com) - The unemployment rate fell to 4.7 percent in January, the lowest since July 2001, the federal government announced Friday. January's job numbers are down from 4.9 percent in December. Last month, 193,000 jobs were added. Most of the jobs added over the past year have been in occupations that pay in the mid to high range, said Jim Saxton, chairman of the Joint Economic Committee. In fact, since May of 2003, more than 4.7 million jobs have been created, he said.
