Scientists Warn of Melting Ice in Arctic

Excerpt:
Scientists on Monday painted a gloomy picture of the effects of global warming on the Arctic, warning of melting ocean ice, rising oceans, thawed permafrost and forests susceptible to bugs and fire.
"A lot of the stories you read make it sound like there's uncertainty," said Jonathan Overpeck, a professor of geosciences at the University of Arizona. "There's not uncertainty."
The questions scientists continue to address, he said after his presentation at the Alaska Forum on the Environment, are how much of the warming is caused by humans and how drastic long-term effects will be.

Can you spot the BIG LIE?

No, what's the "big lie"?

No, what's the "big lie"?
:thud:
"If warming trends continue, Overpeck said, the globe eventually will get a nasty message from the Arctic: a rise in sea levels. Higher oceans will flow into low-lying parts of the world such as New Orleans, making recovery in that hurricane-ravaged city moot."
"It's hard to imagine why we're wanting to rebuild if we're going to allow global warming," Overpeck said."
How did you miss this?

I assumed the 'big lie' was in the part you quoted. This was an error.
Anyway,
"If warming trends continue, Overpeck said, the globe eventually will get a nasty message from the Arctic: a rise in sea levels. Higher oceans will flow into low-lying parts of the world such as New Orleans, making recovery in that hurricane-ravaged city moot."
"It's hard to imagine why we're wanting to rebuild if we're going to allow global warming," Overpeck said."
Okay - so what's the 'big lie' again? I seem to be missing the point.

A rise in the sea levels that endangers coastlines. He says it is a GLOBAL effect from a region that has a vast majority of the ice already in the water. The FLOATING ice is already displacing the water.
Then the man makes a POLITICAL statement. He says ".....It's hard to imagine why we're wanting to rebuild if we're going to allow global warming," Overpeck said."
:hahaha:
I fail to take him and YOU seriously with crap like this.

I thought he meant it was a "global" effect because there are, of course, coastlines all over the world, and this would affect many countries.
I'm not sure how many nations have ocean coasts, but I guess it's a significant percentage.
Then the man makes a POLITICAL statement. He says ".....It's hard to imagine why we're wanting to rebuild if we're going to allow global warming," Overpeck said."
It may be semipolitical, but he has a good point - why bother rebuilding New Orleans if it'll just be a victim of rising waters?

Golly Bob the City never should be there in the first place. It is now insane to rebuild in the same place. Most of it is BELOW sea level! The next nearby landfalling hurricane will just trash it again.
Imagine this scientist chose a SEVERE Worst case example on cities being affected by rising waters.Imagine that you may have thought about this before you made your reply. Not a convincing case this fella made.
What about the average coastal city?
I noticed that you fail to get the part about the vast majority of the Artic ice already in the water.Greenland Ice pack is now in a net growth period. The upper elevations is growing faster than what is losing at the lower levels.
This is why you are not being credible.
