Kitten helps collar U.S. man accused of being fake veterinarian

By TOM HAYS Associated Press Writer

(AP) - NEW YORK-He came from the streets from Brooklyn, a cool customer on four legs, the perfect bait for a sting on a fake veterinarian.

Meet Fred, undercover kitten.

Authorities said on Wednesday they drafted Fred - an 8-month-old former stray adopted by a prosecutor - to pose as a would-be patient while investigating a man who allegedly treated an untold number of pets without a license.

Steven Vassall, 28, was collared last week and charged with unauthorized practice, criminal mischief, attempted petty larceny and other criminal counts, said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes. He was released on $2,500 (€2,090) bail. A call to Vassall's attorney was not immediately returned.

At a news conference, prosecutors introduced Fred, who sported a tiny badge on his collar as he and his owner, Carol Moran, posed for photos......http://news.findlaw.com/ap/o/51/02-08-2006/ef4e000f54504eea.html

Finally, a little vindication for the kitties of the world! While I don't have one now, many cats/kittens have been beloved members of our family, and I'm sure we'll have many more (it's a zoo around here, I tell ya, a zoo!)

Great work, Kitty-Cop!

I guess like a dog that's a puppy till it's a year old, the cat is still technically a kitten, but that's a pretty big baby cat. Anywa, a criminal will (hopefully) be behind bars or at least forced to earn an honest living soon.

BTW, does PETA have anything to say about this?

Now that he's helped catch an imposter, perhaps they can take Fred to a real vet to clean his eyes.

Nice work, anyway, Fred. :claps:

Do ya think the city would have given Fred disability if the fake vet had actually managed to neuter him?

Glad they were able to stop the guy before he hurt any more innocent animals!

A woman comes into a veterinarian's office carrying a dog which she lays on the examining table. The vet comes in, looks at the dog and says "Ma'm this dog is dead. That will be $40.00."

The woman is obviously upset and says "How can you say that? You haven't examined my dog, he's had no tests, you don't know that he's really dead and not unconscious."

The vet sighs and opens the door to the examining room. In comes an old Labrador Retriever. He puts his front paws on the table and sniffs the dog all over then he leaves shaking his head. After the Labrador Retriever leaves, a Siamese Cat pads in, he jumps on the table and sniffs the dog all over before jumping back to the floor and leaving.

The vet says "Your dog is dead. That will be $700.00"

The woman says "You told me he was dead for $40.00. You are a fake and a charlatan".

The vet says, "You should have believed me when I told you he was dead. Now you have a Lab report and a CAT scan".

That reminds me of a Readers Digest story submitted by a canine unit police officer. He was very proud of his dog, which was loyal and fearless, and had on one occasion saved the officer's life at extreme peril to his own.

While patrolling one night, the officer noticed a back door ajar at a commercial center and got out to investigate. Knowing that the dog was much more capable of performing a thorough search, the officer opened the back door of his cruiser to let him out. As usual, the dog was extermely excited to be 'in action' and was eager to please. The officer led the dog to the door and unhooked his leash, whereupon the dog leapt into action and bounded through the door. However, within seconds the dog hurriedly exited the door with his tail between his legs and ran to the patrol car with a thouroughly defeated demeanor.

The officer was totally bewildered because the dog had never shown fear on the job before. That's when he noticed the sign beside the door that identified this particular business as a veterinarian's office.

I took my big old dog to the vet the other day. The vet picked him up, looked him over, and said, "I'm afraid I'm going to have to put him down."

"Put him down? Why?" I asked. I didn't think my dog was that bad off.

"Because he's heavy, and I'm getting tired of holding him," the vet said.

HAHAHAHA!

Remember the kitten that shot his owner? I tried to buy that cat.

It seems that some jerk was going to shoot the kittens his cat had given birth to. He tried to give them away and couldn't so he started shooting. He shot 5, picked another one up and the kit started struggling, got a paw in the trigger and shot the man.

The kitten was taken to the local shelter who made the story public. I tried to buy the cat from the shelter. When I contacted the place (it was in the southeast) they had gotten requests from all over the US from people who wanted the cat.

Rhino is correct. It was a puppy. The dude's mugshot is also on smoking gun website. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5950304/)
