Well sorry about being late...I started this one at 7:00 am this morning.
was saying that the weather outside was frightful.... We just had a snow storm that dumped 14" on us. But as I was going to explain how peaceful it is to be snowed in the power went out and I had to wait for it to be fixed. Since this 7:00 this morning I have cleaned the driveway dug out the cars and cleaned the walks. I'm ready for a nap now!!

Well back to my original message.... It's really peaceful when you are snowed in. You can start a fire sit back read a book or watch a movie, surf the net, play cards. You know you ain't going anywhere so just relax. With the power out it changes things a bit. First off forget the internet and TV. Also forget cooking or baking something. You just want to keep your fire going strong and get the candles out. I tend to make plans on what we should do if the power is going to be out for a long time. I have a popcorn maker that works on the fireplace, I also have full compliment of cast Iron cookware that would work on the fireplace also.
I also figured out who we would eat first if the outage lasted long enough. My Poodle Buddy should be happy to know that the power is back on.

My family lived for 1-1/2 years in North Carolina where I saw my first snow. We got about 3 inches, and three whole days off from school!

:unsmile: It couldn't have been more than 6 inches. It was in Port Arthur, Texas, in 1973. This year, we moved to the Texas panhandle, hoping to see more of the stuff, & we've gotten one of the warmest winters on record. Oh well, it helps to keep the gas bill down.

:unsmile: Probably not more than an hour, but if we hadn't moved away from Jasper, Texas, we would've had a week-long outage after hurricane Rita.

1. What was the biggest snowfall you have experienced?
I don't know. We don't get much snow in Southern New Jersey. I can't remember snowfall totals for any storms. I don't think we've ever hit 3 feet. In North Jersey (where we lived till 1985) I remember it being at the top of, or slightly higher than, the top of the snowblower. I used to clear the driveway with the 36" wide snowblower on the front of my dad's 10 hp garden tractor. I did some neighbors' driveways for money too.
When I was a kid I my brother and I used to like to run down to the basement and watch the basement windows get buried.
2. What has the longest power outage you have experienced?
Again I don't know, but I seem to remember one that was 13 hours or something, a couple years ago. The power came back on at 2 am and set off the smoke alarms! My grandmother is nearly deaf and never heard it. My parents don't have any on their side of the house, so they never heard it either. I had to go out to the barn and get hearing protectors, and then stand on a chair to pull the thing out of the ceiling. The sound was unbearable.

We don't have either one. Back in North Jersey we had a woodstove but never cooked on it.

Yes. I love shortwave. My dad gave me a Grundig shortwave radio for my 14th birthday. I used to love listening to it every night. I also used to listen to AM radio from all over the country at night time. But here in South Jersey I can't get hardly any reception on either shortwave or AM, so I haven't really done any listening in almost 21 years. The radio is still in mint condition though, even though I've had it for over 38 years.

1. What was the biggest snowfall you have experienced? Blizzard of 77/78, I have no idea how much snow fell but it seemed like more than the 29 inches they are saying is a record in New York. Is that really the record?
