View Full Version : Help! PDF files cause IE error

Everytime I view a PDF on the web, and then close it out, IE immediately gives me an error. That error box comes up that says Internet Explorer has encountered an error and will be closed, or something like that. You can either click send or don't send- that's for the error report. Either way I lose all open windows. If I ignore the error window and slide it out of the way, everything is slow or just doesn't work.
So it's a lose-lose situation.
I don't know what to do about this.
I believe I have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat, and have no spyware or viruses in the computer.
Thanks for your help.

Do you use Google or MSN Toolbar? The link deals with MSN Toolbar, but I understand the Google Toolbar can cause this too.

A simple workaround is to save the PDF file to disk and open it in Acrobat Reader. I've never been fond of opening a PDF in a browser.

You can just change the Acrobat settings so it doesn't open in a browser window. You don't need to save it first. There is actually a way to make Barry's problem go away. I've done it before, at my last job. I just can't seem to find it now. I wonder if I saved it at home??????

In answer to your question, no. But I have both Ebay and Yahoo toolbars. I've had them for years.
Thanks

Well, that link tells you how change your Acrobat settings to open pdf files in Acrobat rather than in your browser, which should still fix the problem.

Thanks for all your replies. I forgot I asked this question. I'm still interested in something that actually prevents the error, other than making the files open in Acrobat. This error problem wasn't always this way. I'd like it to go back the way it was, if possible.
