Man Arrested After Molotov Cocktail Thrown Into Bank

JEFFERSON -- Someone threw a molotov cocktail into the Regions Bank on the Square in Downtown Jefferson. According to Jefferson Fire Chief Bobby Gooch, no one was injured in the explosion and fire.

Police have arrested one person.

The FBI has been called in to assist in the investigation.

A Molotov Cocktail is a makeshift bomb made out of a breakable container filled with a flammable liquid.

A rag is usually used as a wick that's lighted just before being hurled.

A man suspected of throwing what has been called an "incendiary device" into a bank building has been arrested in Jefferson, Ga., according to local officials.

According to Regions Bank spokesperson Rebecca Stowe, a man entered the Regions Bank branch in Jefferson at about 3:00 on Monday afternoon, tossed an incendiary device and ran from the bank.

Police say the device exploded, causing some damage to the interior of the bank. No injuries have been reported.

The suspect, who was not identified, was captured a short distance away by Jefferson police. The FBI and GBI are heading to Jefferson to conduct an investigation.

Jefferson is located in Jackson County, northeast of Atlanta and northwest of Athens.
