New York -- For days, the White House news corps has pounded the Bush administration, demanding to learn more about Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental shooting of a hunting companion Saturday.
Cheney finally addressed the incident Wednesday, but the forum in which he chose to do so -- in an exclusive interview with Fox News host Brit Hume -- quickly became another source of contention.

"Now that he feels forced to talk, he wants to restrict the discussion to a friendly news outlet, guaranteeing no hard questions from the press corps," Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., said in a statement.
On CNN, commentator Jack Cafferty called the interview "a little bit like Bonnie interviewing Clyde. ... I mean, running over there to the Fox network -- talk about seeking a safe haven."

The story isn't the news - it's who gets to tell the story, thats the real news.

That Senator ought to be disciplined for that comment... That is way out of bounds... The rudeness and cruelty of the left is incredible... There will be NO bipartisan common ground with these bastards...

The gap between the right and the left is growing everyday and just such comments like this over an entirely personal, accidental trajedy is clear evidence that the animosity is being fueled from the left, not the Right...

I think Hume did conducted a very insightful interview and I did not see any evidence of bias on the part of Fox News.

Cafferty: Hume interviewing Cheney "like Bonnie interviewing Clyde"

During the February 15 edition of CNN's The Situation Room, CNN anchor Jack Cafferty (http://mediamatters.org/rd?http://www.cnn.com/CNN/anchors_reporters/cafferty.jack.html) told Situation Room host Wolf Blitzer (http://mediamatters.org/rd?http://www.cnn.com/CNN/anchors_reporters/blitzer.wolf.html) that Vice President Dick Cheney's interview (http://mediamatters.org/rd?http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/15/cheney/index.html) with Fox News host Brit Hume (http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/people/brithume) on the "F-word network" (Fox News Channel) to discuss his February 11 accidental shooting of a hunting party companion "didn't exactly represent a profile in courage." Although Cafferty acknowledged that he had not seen the interview, which had yet to be released in full, he nonetheless asserted that the fact that Cheney interviewed exclusively with Hume was "a little like Bonnie interviewing Clyde." When Blitzer asked if Cafferty thought Cheney "still needs to do a full-scale news conference," Cafferty replied: "That's never going to happen." He insisted, however, that "running over there to the Fox network" was "seeking a safe haven" because Cheney will not "get any high, hard ones from anybody at the F-word network."
