My friends, please pray for our dear sister, Patriot Heart. Her mammogram was not what she expected.

Julie's doctor told her that there is a 90+% cure for this stage and type, which is very good news. However, it's important that we ask God to keep His hand on her and her family during this trying period.

Julie, darling, you can count on us. I'll ask Homes to say a prayer on our behalf. She does it so well..

Sis?

Been there, done gone through all that with my wife. But it doesn't make it any less stressful. I know what you're going through, and I pray that all goes well. The plus side is medicine has made great strides in this. You're in good hands all around - the doctors, our prayers and God Almighty.

Lord of Hosts, Our Most High God,
We unite our voices as one to praise You in all Your Glory and Magnificence. Each of us knows that but for Your Grace and Mercy, we would be forever lost on our own. Loving Father, we call upon You now in the hour of our sister PatriotHeart's need laying our petition at Your Beautiful Feet. We know not what the future holds for her, but we absolutely know Who holds her future, and we ask that Your Hand of Divine Intervention be upon the situation. Grant peace, we pray and a calming spirit to comfort her and her family as they face this mountain. If it be Your Will we ask that the mountain be moved, but if a greater purpose is served by the climb, we humbly ask that You carry her up and over. Thank You God for Your Presence in each of our lives, and for what You are doing in the life of our sister, PatriotHeart. Great Power we are assured is granted in the Name of Your Son, and it is in His Name we do ask all these things, and bring them before You now.
Amen.

We serve an awsome God, Patriot Heart, so Awsome that he sent His own Son to hang on a tree and pay the price for our healing, at the same time he paid the price for our sins.

I Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: 'by whose stripes ye were healed'. (His back was shredded by the lash)

Hebrews 13:5.....for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear............8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever.

He is an Awsome Saviour, Body, Soul and Spirit.

We agree in prayer for your full recovery, in Jesus Name.

I am praying for you too, dear sister in Christ. He saw me through stage III invasive ductal carcinoma and all the treatments that brings to bear. He will see you through whatever you have to face. He is embracing you with His love and his healing is already in process. Tears are good and so is laughter. Recommended and Oncologist approved complementary therapies: Hugs, Chocolate and LOTS and LOTS of prayer. :)

Well, the MRI is out of the way now. I dutifully took my 5mg Valium as reccomended, to help me stay still during the procedure....I was really looking forward to a long nap http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/snore.gif but the blasted MRI machine is SO LOUD that I didn't do more than doze off a time or two! They had even given me earplugs. Anyway, I can see "the enemy" plain as day on the film, now Friday it is off to see the surgeon and find out what his plan is. The Great Surgeon already knows of course! http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/icon7.gif

MRI's are a trip, aren't they? ... I've had two without the valium (I refused it). I'd describe the noise that machine makes as being really, really loud techno gone bad :D

If you get a PET/CT that's trippy too. Not as noisy, but they shoot you full of radioactive sugar and then you have to 'relax' ... HA!. ;)

God bless you, sis, I'm praying continually.

Little update here, what I sent my family actually, thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers....

Bill and I went into OKC today and met my surgeon, Dr Squires of OU Physicians, today. He spent 1 1/2 hrs with us discussing options. I like him alot, he makes me feel more confident and hopeful. I also visited more with Dr Ann Archer the radiologist at the Breast Center. She was able to give us some important things to consider in making the decision about which surgery I will have. We won't make a final decision until early next week, when the rest of the lab studies are back on the characteristics of the cells obtained by the biopsy.
We are doing OK here, keep the prayers coming, it helps.

God Bless

Patriot Heart, I'm looking at your picture of you and your Patriot husband. He looks so proud to be holding you. His love and God's love and all the love and prayers you are receiving here is going to get you through this. About 15 years ago a good friend of mine went through what you're going through now. She's still going strong. I know how fearful the "C" word is. I had a scare once so I have an inkling of what you're feeling but I have a really good feeling about your prognosis. What did the Doctor tell you? Did he/she give you a positive report?

The docs have presented a pretty optimistic picture, but being a "glass is half empty" type of person, I need extra encouragement to stay positive. That said, I feel it does not honor God to go about feeling droopy all the time so I am trying not to. Today.....I shall distract myself from my bruised and sore biopsy boob and head to the giant used library book sale in OKC, to acquire yet more books I have no room for. My idea of a blast!

Things are looking up, darling. :) Of course, you're still in my prayers.

I remember my own MRI. Or was it a CAT scan? Whatever. What I remember is that it's a very narrow place and being somewhat claustrophobic, I had a hard time staying there. Anyway, after the second or third attempt, they decided to blindfold me. It worked. You know what they say, what they eyes don't see, the heart doesn't grive over. ;)

OK I'll keep posting updates for my prayer warriors.....today I met the plastic surgeon......he had a Middle Eastern surname...but his first name is...are you ready...."CHRISTIAN" yes it's true....as my husband said "he can't be a Muslim, he would have committed suicide by now with a name like that!" Anyway he was a nice guy, very thorough in explanations.....then I went to the radiologists office to find out what the latest lab results showed....she was happy, the second biopsy done on a site near the tumor was negative....also the ER/PR receptors are positive which is good news for followup treatment...long story short I may still have lumpectomy, where all weekend I have been planning for mastectomy. The "Tumor Board" will review my case tomorrow and then Thursday I will meet with the general surgeon and get a date for the OR. If this is TMI (Too Much Information) please forgive me, and many many thanks for the thoughts and prayers........

...Or was it a CAT scan?...A woman brought her sick bird into the vet... The vet looked at the bird and told the woman, "There is nothing I can do - the bird was gonna die... That will be $15...

The woman said, "Is that it? You just, look at my bird and declare it terminal? That's all?"

The vet said, "Ok wait a minute..."

He brings in a Labrador Retriever... The dog sniffs the bird, looks at the vet, shakes his head sadly and walks away...

The the vet brings in a persian cat... The cat paws at the bird, looks at the vet, shakes her head sadly, and walks away...

The vet tells the woman, "Sorry, you bird is going to die... That will be $100..."

The woman says, "$100!!! An minute ago you said it would be $15!!!"

The vet replied, "Yeah, but that was before I ran a Lab report and a Cat scan..."

And speakin of pets...

This morning I was leaving for work - late as usual - and as I got out on the county road I came up on a tiny little baby dog just sittin in the middle of the road... So young he didnt know to move... Well, ya cant leave a baby in the road like that - he's tiny - less than a foot long... And he definitely had that lost look about him... So I scooped him up and took him back to the house...

He's a little bird dog - a pointer or sumpin - all white bod with patches of black on his head... I called Wifey on the cell phone and warned her that I was coming back... We give him some bisquit which he devoured... Then wife put him on the back porch...

Wife checked with the neighbors and no one claims him... So now the plan is to take him to the county animal shelter - they are really good folks... They dont put critters down - They keep em till they find homes for em... Anyway that's the plan as of this morning...

Well Wife called me and said, "Listen", and held the phone out, and you could hear the critter on the back porch... WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!! Let me in!!! Im an Indoor Doggie!!! WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!

She said he made her itch when she touched him so I told her to give him a bath - how long could that take, he's less than a foot long... So she did and wrapped him up in a towel and held him in her lap to warm him up - and of course he was perfectly at home...

After I got to work she called me again and said in a plaintive voice, "This little doggie scooted over on the sofa beside me and turned around and laid his head on my tummy and went to sleep..." Like I was sposed to make him stop being cute... He's a real punkin...

Like I said, the plan is to take him to the shelter, but we'll see... ;)

Edit: She called again... He barfed on the new rug... Point against him... :D

OK now for my update.....I am back from OKC. The Doc :doc: said that the labs came back with results we'd hoped for, it's complicated, but bottom line is I will be eligible for some meds that would otherwise have been useless for me. He also felt that lumpectomy is as viable an option as mastectomy at this point, and that is was my choice. I decided to go with lumpectomy. Radiation will follow, and possibly chemo, depending on the lymph node pathology. Surgery is scheduled for March 10. Now for a little humor.

Surgery is scheduled for March 10.

You will be blanketed with prayer, you have my word, my friend.

March 10th, my father would have been 70 years old. I will be spending the day with him at the cemetery revamping the flowers and arrangements, with my mother and daughter. We always pray together when we visit him, and you have my promise we will raise up one for you as well.

Many Blessings,

Aww, Laz. That is such a cute story.

So. Are you going to keep the pup, or did he blow his chances by barfing on the new carpet? :grin:Well here's the update on sir pup... He's not with us today but it still has a happy ending...

Last night when I got home Wife wanted to try one more road near us to see if we could find his home - I think she didnt want to invest any more into the little guy (emotionally) if someone was gonna come along and claim him... So we took him and hopped in the ruck and went down the last dirt road... This one ends in the driveway of this house down there and as soon as we pulled into their yard we were greeted by about 7 duplicates of our little visitor... I think I even saw him waving to them from our truck window and he was saying, "Hi guys... Guess where I've been all day"... Obviously we had found the right place...

The lady there was thrilled that we had brought him back... Although she was blessed with a significant pack of doglets, the one who had wandered off was the specific one she wanted to keep... So she was appropriately appreciative... And she offered Wife any or all of the others... Wife said she'd sleep on it and we waved our goodbyes, knowing we had done a good deed and everyone slept well last night... Except for the wayward pup whom im sure kept all the other pups up late with tales of adventure...;)

SO this morning Wife says she doesnt think she's ready for a new baby in the house yet, and I head off to work... Then after lunch she called and said she was at the animal shelter and was tellin me what all they had...

Now, even as Im writing this post, she has called and said she was with the lady and they were taking the whole bunch to the shelter - Except for one that the lady is going to keep - Plus 2, count em, 2 that Wife is bringing home - One is the little guy who stayed with us yesterday and the other is a black female...

So we have gone from doggie rescuers to no doggies to multiple doggies...

As this story is ever changing and unfolding as we speak, I'll provide updates as they become available...

I'll fire up the the digital camera tonight if indeed I come home to baby dogs...

Stay tuned to Doggie Central... Details at 10...

Many, many, MANY, humble thanks to all of you, for the prayers and good thoughts. Thanks Maggie for posting my note, I hoped you would, I was too bleary eyed last night to do more than the mini email to a few friends.
I had pretty well convinced myself that I would have positive nodes, the old "glass half empty" thinking coming back to haunt me. I was the last case, so we didn't leave the hospital until 1900 and then had to wiat on an RX before the 80 mile trip home, got back after 2100, but my folks were here holding down the fort with the kids.
Radiation starts in 4 weeks but it looks like I may be able to avoid Chemo.
I feel so lifted up and I am so grateful.
Again, thanks and God Bless you all

I truly don't want to become tedious with my health updates, but for those that might be interested, I met my oncologist today. Remarkably I liked this guy too, I am 4 for 4 now, they have all been kind, likeable people. It turns out that the final pathology reports showed that while the lymph nodes are still negative, the tumor cells showed aggressive growth behavior. The docs feel that it would be best for me to do a round of chemo, starting next Wednesday. It will be repeated 3 more times, each round 3 weeks apart. I am having some anxiety about this but I trust their judgement. I am not keen on going bald, but that goes with the territory. I will ship off the long braid to Locks of Love so someone else can make use of it. After chemo is radiation.
Thanks again for the prayers.

What could be worse than someone who keeps rambling on about their health woes? (OK Hillary but that's a different subject  ) I am up at 0300 because I can't sleep and I am afraid. My first round of chemo is later today. My hair will shortly be gone. All is vanity, eh. Prayers have infinite value to me.
Thanks.

Well today's first chemo went ALOT better than I expected........I was lifted up by prayers, and God saw fit for me to be given a fairly new anti nausea drug "Aloxi" that can work for up to a week.........I have no nausea at all, I am tired but I even felt hungry. Amazing.

OK I have joined the Kojak Club now. When you get out of the shower with more loose hair than when you went in, it's time to bite the bullet. My dear long suffering husband insisted on doing "the honors". At a minimum I would like to be made an honorary Marine.
By the way have any of you had experience with a portacath? I had mine put in Friday. I have a few questions.....I have not dealt with these in my line of nursing work.

Sis?

Patriot Heart, I have joined my prayers to the others. May God bless you and heal you. While it is hard to see right now, know that our Lord loves you, and that He intends this trial for your good. I hope you recover quickly and fully. Blessings.

They're used fairly commonly among cancer patients. Put in place semi-permanently under the skin, it allows the medical personnel to inject the prescribed medicine without having to find a surface vein each time, which would be an irritant to the patient. Plus it can connect to a large deep vein. They are often placed in the chest area.

Hope that helps.

Patriot Heart,
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, my friend. I'm so sorry to hear what you've been going through :(
Stay strong!

I'll keep an eye on this thread. I guess I need to stick my head in here more often!

God bless,

btw... Portacaths are a wonderful invention... Keep it clean and it'll be your best contraption throughout this ordeal.

Have you had surgical intervention?..aside from lumpectomy?

:(

Hey no worries Jen, how could you know? Now that I am diagnosed, I seem to find all kinds of people with it in their past, where before I only know a couple.
My current update, had my 2nd chemo April 21, all went well until 10 that night, when my 10 yr old and I came down with my 7 yr olds' stomach flu for 36 hrs. Ooh my, that was not a pretty sight. The strangest part was that it exacerbated the mild appetite loss I feel for 2-3 days after chemo....I really had no sensation of hunger for nearly a week. I made myself eat, but still lost 6#. It is positively boring to not care about food. I couldn't concieve of going to a movie, because I had no desire for popcorn, and what's the use of going if you can't have popcorn?
The port a cath finally stopped hurting, I am going to try running again. I hate being bald, and avoid mirrors. Other that that I am doing well, eternally grateful for the prayers and good wishes, and thankful that I have a great medical team at OU Physicians helping me. :smirky:

PH,
Please know, we are praying, and continuing to do so! He is in control, and you are in His Hand. Don't worry about the hair thing, it's overrated, LOL. Stay strong, and we'll keep sending the shouts up to Heaven for ya!
Many Blessings,
Hms

I got this off a breast cancer bulletin board. It makes me laugh, and yet cry a little too. Maybe it will help someone else facing hair loss from chemo.

Attitude is Everything!
"There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.
'Well,'she said, 'I think I'll braid my hair today.'
So she did and she had a wonderful day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head.
'Hmmm.........', she said, 'I think I'll part my hair down the middle today.'
So she did and she had a grand day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her haid.
'Well', she said, 'Today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail.'
So she did and had a fun, fun day.
The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head.
'YEAH!', she exclaimed, 'I don't have to fix my hair today!!!!'

So remember, Attitude is Everything!"

I agree in prayer with all of my brothers and sisters in the Lord that you will get through this victoriously. Please remain thankful to God who gave you life and will see you through every trial. God has never failed me. I know He has never failed you either. There is nothing to great for Him. We can say "Why me?" or we can say "Thank you for saving me!". He will save you and keep you through everything. Our part is believing and receiving, His part is granting us our petitions and honoring His word. I stand in faith with you. We all look forward to the good report.

Hi Gang
Me again, like your old great Aunt who wants to talk about her aches and pains at a reunion!
3 weeks ago I finished my 4th and last chemo treatment. Yesterday I started the radiation, it is daily except weekends through Aug 8 or so. I am doing pretty well. Very tired of hats. Found me a baseball cap at the thrift store the other day, it says "WISH YOU WERE HAIR"
Thanks for the prayers.

Bless your heart. You know I had a friend who went thru what you are bravely doing right now. She decided she would have a little fun to try and cheer up her hubby because you know it's tough for them too. He loves you and this isn't a time where fun comes easy. but she bought on of the Fredericks of Hollywood wigs, you know the super sexy long haired things. She said he loved it and they still laugh about it. She keeps it as a reminder and he says it reminds him of how much they have been thru together. She's fine now by the way, my prayers are for the same for you.

First of all...all prayers, love and thoughts are going out to you. You are an incredibly special person who has graced us with your angel-like prescence. You are to be loved, prayed for and to make sure that all of this pain is carried to a minimum via all of your friend's prayers.

As for "WISH YOU WERE HAIR"....Boy do I know that! Join the hair grubbers society! :)

Big X and Bix O to you! :) :)

Always your friend,

Chris

However: I am not ungrateful for the incredible technology that is helping me to stay alive!

Hi Guys
Couldn't resist a little update here....yesterday was a milestone (literally) for me...I finished my course of 33 radiation treatments, they were Monday through Friday.........I drove a total of 5,445 miles (it was 165 miles roundtrip). I had professional and compassionate care from the crew at Radiation Therapy at OU Physicians. I am a bit...err....sunburned....but that area will recover soon! Best part is the hair follicles woke up, I have a stubby hairdo now, not my original color, but hey I'll take it!
For the rest of the year I will get a Herceptin infusion via my port once every three weeks. So far, so good.
If anyone has a family member or friend find they are facing breast cancer, I would be glad to communicate with them......
