Black voters' loyalty to the Democratic Party is no longer a certainty in Maryland, especially among young independent voters, several black leaders say.
"We might be the last generation of unabashed loyalists to the Democratic Party," state Senate Majority Leader Nathaniel J. McFadden of Baltimore says. "The Democratic Party is no longer a monolith for the African-American community."
Rep. Albert R. Wynn of Prince George's County warns his party's leaders that "black voters can no longer be taken for granted."
Securing the black vote has become a critical concern among Maryland Democrats in an election year rife with racial politics:
• Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, a Republican who is the first black to win statewide office in Maryland, has been lampooned as a minstrel on a liberal Web log, and Democratic operatives wrongly acquired his credit report in his run for the U.S. Senate.

This particular subject matter is stuff of stories that run every other year or so. The fact that they are disenchanted with the Democrats doesn't make them Republicans by default.
In fact, the reason why they are so disenchanted with the Dems is because they aren't "Dem" enough for them--more programs for the poor, more sympathy, more affirmative action, more, more, more...
They see the Dems caving in to the Republicans on issues that are near and dear to them.
They are going to continue with their pattern of their 90+ percent ballot casting for Democrats because it is ultimately about their lack of maturity. Most of them, to varying degrees, simply can't let the slave ship go. They have spent generations waiting for an apology and will continue to do so.
Eventually, Michigan Law School will grant admission to black crackhead 7th-grade dropouts because of the 'diversity' added to the overall student population by their valuable insights on destroying ones own life.
Then, they won't have to worry about not voting Dem...because Republicans will have allowed their incessant whining and guilt inducement to completely eliminate the difference between the two parties.
I'll be convinced of the conversion process when a black Republican candidate defeats a Democrat in a district/city/state where the majority of voters are black (and I challenged ANYONE to give me just one, single example of that scenario having actually occured).

Agreed, but all that need happen is they cease voting Democrat or cease voting. Either one of those things works well.
In fact, the reason why they are so disenchanted with the Dems is because they aren't "Dem" enough for them--more programs for the poor, more sympathy, more affirmative action, more, more, more...

But that "90% ballot casting for the Dems" will be offset nicely by the fact that fewer and fewer blacks will vote. As it is, the DNC already has to bribe many of them with free cigarettes and rides to the polls to get them to vote!

On the contrary, what will happen is that the Democrat Party will have to draw more and more upon "black crackhead 7th-grade dropout" graduates of Michigan Law School for the DNC candidates. Hell, we've made good progress towards that worthy goal already, judging by a heckuva lot of the black Democrats already in Congress! They are near-retards, and it becomes apparent every time they open their black yaps.
I'll be convinced of the conversion process when a black Republican candidate defeats a Democrat in a district/city/state where the majority of voters are black (and I challenged ANYONE to give me just one, single example of that scenario having actually occured).
I'm not looking for that sort of "convincing". I'll be more than satisfied just to have the Democrat Party continue to lose race after race for control of the House, the Senate, and the White House! And we've already made excellent progress towards that worthy goal!!

And perhaps one day the Republicans will actually learn what to do with such victories--instead of continuing to serve as the lesser of two evils.

Well, I'd invite you to describe for us the "evils" you feel the Republican Party has committed, but since I don't think you'd be able to list any for us anyways, I'm not going to bother to ask you to do so.

So why did you bother to post a response? Simply as a demonstration of smugness?

Failure to eliminate the Department of Agriculture.
Failure to eliminate the Department of Education.
Failure to eliminate the Department of Health and Human Services.
Failure to eliminate the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Failure to eliminate the Department of Labor.
Failure to eliminate the Department of Commerce.
Failure to eliminate the Department of the Interior.
Failure to eliminate the Bureau of...just about all of them.
Failure to remove the United States from the United Nations.
Failure to remove the United Nations from American soil.
Failure to adequately support democracies philosophically, such as Taiwan and Israel, in favor of appeasing (and selling weapons to) dictatorships.
Failure to rescind the Voting Rights Act.
Failure to appoint justices to rescind Roe v. Wade.
Failure to eliminate all forms discriminatory "affirmative action" programs.
Failure to eliminate the flow of illegal immigration into this country.
I came accross a very nice site for Black conservatives...and found it very informative...so much so that I linked it to my website.

Blacks will still be in the Democrats' hip pocket until/unless they vote about evenly. Until that time, blacks as a whole are still on the Dem plantation.

OK, fair enough, and I think I agree with you that all of those are indeed very worthy goals for the Republican Party to pursue (and are goals which the Democrat Party is opposed to pursuing, since most of them are things the Democrat Party implemented!) especially as the GOP increases its margin of control beyond the very thin margin it currently has.
But to describe the failure of the GOP to as yet eliminate those various Democrat-implemented things, especially given its thin margin over the Democrats, as "evil" is, I think, a bit much.
I'll grant you that it was evil of the Democrats to create those schemes/departments, but it took the Dems over 40 years to create those "evil" things and it's unfair to expect a thin-margin-of-control GOP to tear them down overnight.
Give the GOP the kind of huge margin of control in the House and the Senate that that Democrat Party enjoyed, and give the GOP that margin for a couple of decades, and then we should see some worthwhile changes! Sure, the GOP is (slowly) increasing its margin over the Dems, but it's still a pretty thin margin.

You know your wrong on that one.

Maybe blacks are finally realizing that it is the GOP that has given them the chance to serve in some of the most prestigious positions.
-Colin Powell, former Secretary of State and Retired Chief of Staff.
-Condoleeza Rice, current Secretary of State.
-Michael Steele, Lt. Governor of Maryland.
Please add to this names of those not mentioned. Thank you!
