We now have a new American citizen—Thalia.
In case you didn't know, Thalía (Ariadna Thalía Sodi) is a Mexican pop singer (http://www.vdare.com/sailer/bad_prediction.htm) and telenovela (http://vdare.com/misc/050519_mcinnes.htm) actress. She has sung in Spanish (http://www.vdare.com/awall/conquistadors.htm), English and other languages. Besides being a mega-star in Mexico, she has fans in Europe (http://www.vdare.com/sailer/europe.htm) and the Far East. . . .

The first article I saw about Thalia's new citizenship contained this interesting fact:
"At the moment, the singer has not clarified whether she will only take one citizenship or opt not to abandon the Mexican [citizenship]. [Thalia es ciudadana de EU (http://www.elsiglodetorreon.com.mx/archivo/nID/191122/), El Siglo de Torreón, January 11, 2006]
So who gave her that option?
The citizenship(s) question soon became clearer. Thalia herself made a statement clarifying it:
"This morning I acquired United States citizenship. Nevertheless, under the laws of my country, Mexico (http://www.vdare.com/awall/shell_game.htm), I can also have Mexican citizenship. I have been a resident of the United States for 8 years and I have been married to my husband Tommy Mottola for the last 5 of them. Just like some of my Latino friends such as Salma Hayek (http://www.vdare.com/awall/hayek.htm), who is just as Mexican as I, and Gloria (http://immigration.about.com/library/weekly/aa012400a.htm) and Emilio Estefan, among others, I feel that this step will give me the opportunity to contribute to and support even more the Latin community in the United States. I am of Mexican nationality, and I will always be a proud Mexican in heart and soul."

... (I)n the 1990s, Mexico embarked on a campaign of extending its political authority into the United States - not just over Mexican immigrants, but also naturalized and native-born Americans of Mexican ancestry. There are 10 million Mexican-born people in this country (including 5 million illegals) plus more than 10 million additional Americans of Mexican descent.

Now, this is not the fantasy of reconquista - retaking the Southwest, lost in the 1846-'48 Mexican War. Instead, it is an attempt to set up a special status for people of Mexican origin, like the status Europeans enjoyed in China in the 19th century.

There's nothing secret about this effort. President Vicente Fox once referred to himself as president of all 118 million Mexicans - the 100 million in Mexico and the (then-)18 million in the United States, the majority of whom are U.S. citizens. And this is a long-term proposition for them: In June 2001, Juan Hernandez, former head of Fox's cabinet-level office for relations with Mexicans abroad, said on ABC's "Nightline," "I want the third generation, the seventh generation, I want them all to think, 'Mexico first.'"

There are several elements to the Mexican government's campaign:

Dual citizenship. In order for an immigrant to become an American, he must renounce all other political allegiances. But our government has been remarkably nonchalant about this and, in response, Mexico in 1997 passed a law allowing for a form of dual citizenship. Mexico will soon permit voting from abroad, perhaps in time for the 2006 presidential election, meaning that potentially millions of dual nationals would be able to vote in both countries. Already, a number of dual citizens have won public office in Mexico, including a member of Mexico's Congress. A tiny number of dual citizens may be little more than an irritant; huge numbers of them represent a political crisis.Bush Bill Would Aid Mexico's Meddling in U.S. (http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/markoped021804.html)

A storm is brewing.

As I have said here before, I have fully supported Mr Bush in his war on Terror, but on this issue I am at total odds with him... When he took the oath of office he swore to enforce the laws of this nation - that is what the executive branch does... IMO he is in direct and purposeful violation of his oath of office...

And I dont want to hear about immigration reform - We dont NEED immigration reform... There is NOTHING wrong with the immigration laws that were on the books when he took office... The only immigration crisis we have is from a result of this president's willful refusal to enforce our current laws, and his obvious desire to merge all of North America into one single country...

It has become apparent to me that this president is exactly, precisely his father's son... Just like his dad, he is enamored with the idea of a "New World Order"... And THAT is where I and Mr Bush part ways...

Same here, Laz! Same here but my list of disagreements goes on:

-The port issue.
-Giving money to the Palestinians.
-Pandering to Arab states who oppose us.
