My prediction: more babies diagnosed "beyond help" resulting in more dead babies. Legal does NOT equal rare, and it never will.

I don't believe so. This is poor logic, used to justify why we shouldn't allow gays to get married.
If I were suffering from a terminal illness that was causing me extreme pain, I would ask to be put to sleep. It is unfair to allow a living being to live in so much pain. They have to suffer so much.

And you would not mind being starved to death and dehydrated to death, with only morphine to relieve your dying pain, eh?

Since when can babies cognitively assent to being euthanized?

You are simply wrong.
When abortion was legalized, abortions did NOT become rare, regardless of being "safe" ... in fact, they INCREASED exponentially, as did the advancement in procedural methods (i.e. methods of killing), such as the GROSSLY inhumane partial-birth abortion.
They are not being performed for the "health and safety" of the mother (which was probably being done PRIOR to legalization, because it was morally and ethically acceptable therefore not talked about), those cases ARE extremely rare. They are being performed for convenience, plain and simple.
Such is the case with this decision -- it will become more convenient, and the reasons for doing it will become more vague, less discriminate. It is simply human nature.

But haven't there been kids who've had a horrible first year or so of life who have nonetheless somehow survived and grown up to become productive, even beneficial members of society?
