...and I'm not talking about the ones inside my head.
I have a wireless router hooked to a cable modem. Currently both my comps are hooked to the router via ethernet cables. Lately on rare occasions, I hear what sounds like a burst of radio traffic coming from the direction of the router and modem. I'm not talking about static, I'm talking about voices. It only lasts for a second. Has anybody else here experienced that? I haven't researched it yet on the internet.

It could be passing radio-equipped cars or trucks transmitting near you. Then again, it might be interceptions of alien underground base communications. Best bet: encase the router & modem in no less than five layers of heavy-duty Reynold's Wrap, and align all leads N-S ± 7.5°.
It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v349/DocDoom777/afdbsmiley.gif" />

You mentioned the very same thing too, the other day. You're beginning to scare me........

A wireless router is essentially a radio, and is susceptible to interference like any other radio. I'm not sure how it manages to convert that interference to audio though, since the routers I've seen have no audio conversion built in. Possibly the cable modem. Another reason why I don't use wireless.

Well Doc, I had thought that if I wrapped my head with the foil, that might work. In fact as I type this I am aligned directly North to South; at least that's what the compass that I have ducktaped to the bill of my foil cap is indicating. Oh...wait, is that true north or magnectic north. Damn! I forgot to figure declination. Hey, will the foil interfere with the compass? I don't think it should right. I mean it's aluminum foil. That's the right kind of foil isn't it? I just hope some SOB didn't slip some type of ferric metal into into the mix then all us tin-hatters would be screwed.

I am not actually using the wireless feature of the router not that that would necessarily keep it from picking up stray traffic. Something I forgot to mention is that our phone service is through the cable as well. I don't know that either the modem or the router has a speaker. Perhaps it is coming through the computer and then the speaker closest to the router and modem. I'll do some more checking.
