:unsmile: I want to edit an image, by cutting away all but part of it. How do I get rid of the white space that remains from the size of the original image?

Try using a background color similar to the picture that will have the cut-out pasted on it. You can change the white default setting by checking out the Help topics (background). Download a free month's trial of a fully functioning Paint Shop Pro from Jasc, and you will have less trouble with the white border.

:moo: Thanx for the tips. Of course, like so many other things, I figured it out, after asking others. I surrounded the portion I wanted to save with a "select" border, then copied & pasted it into a new file.
