If you have a use for it, it's worth the money.

Some info:

Flash MX 2004 - Flash News, Tutorials and Reviews (http://www.flash-mx.com/)

Flash Professional 8 (http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/flashpro/) (MacroMedia site)

FlashGuru Consulting (http://www.flashguru.co.uk/)

Macromedia Flash MX Tutorials (http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/Flash/1)

It has its uses, but it's a real pain in the ass for dialup users who have to wait for a 2-meg Flash intro to load in order to access a site because the idiots didn't include a "Skip intro" link.. When I find sites like that, I usually cancel them.

Flash MX is a waste of your time, in my humblest of opinions.

I program web systems and do website conceptualization (I hate the word "design"... its so overused) for a living, so believe my word.

The time you have to invest to make a 10 second animation or cool effect could be hours. What you may take for granted on a completely-flash based website (like cool little animated graphics and things that slide in when you click them), is VERY tedious and VERY time consuming.

As Dr Doom said, it's also a pain for 56kers. A lot of people forget that a huge amount of our internet users are still on dial-up and write them off as "people who should just upgrade and get it over with". But in all actuality, not a lot of people who don't live inside the most densely populated area of your city, can get broadband (like myself).

That being said, how much do you want to create little flash gizmos that not everyone can see (remember, not everyone HAS flash, let alone has the time to WAIT for it), at such a monetary price? Flash isn't cheap... none of the Macromedia suite is.

I have trained extensively in flash for my clients who may desire it, but for all my own purposes, I forget even using it and skip right to photoshop.

I would love to learn how to make flash movies. I did not have the pleasure of taking a good computer course to teach me that stuff, but I have always wanted to get creative. I would love to also learn full animation.

I would love to also learn full animation.I'd settle for remaining fully animated. The older I get, the harder it is to animate myself.
