Along with my remark about the intelligence of liberals, my signature has for a long time included Dan Rather's famous remark about honesty and lying. IIRC, the context of the comment was a defense of Bill Clinton's behavior that Dan tried to put forth on O'Reilly's show; however, as a comment on his values and standards of truth, it is quite telling--and chilling--especially in the light of "memo-gate."
Dan should be ashamed of himself for saying that you could tell "any number" of lies and still be "an honest person." Other members of the MSM should have said that that statement was not acceptable and not true. Did they? And since they didn't, that seems to say a lot about them.
The MSM is not a reliable source of information, and perhaps never has been, if the values espoused by Rather reflect not a new attitude, but instead one that has been entrenched in the media for many years--something that, while disheartening to say the least, seems quite plausible, if not in fact likely.
