(CNSNews.com) - Democrats say Americans deserve "Real Security," and if Americans vote for Democrats, that's what they'll get.
But Republicans say the Democrats have missed numerous opportunities to demonstrate their commitment to national security. Their votes belie their promises, some say.
At a press conference in Washington Wednesday, Democrat leaders outlined a plan intended to demonstrate that "Democrats are the party of real national security."
"The highest responsibility of government is to protect the security of every American," said Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid. "After five years of Republican incompetence, Americans have had enough. They expect and demand policies that are tough and smart," he said.
House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said Democrats have put forward an agenda that "offers a new direction - on that is strong and smart, one that understands the challenges America faces in a post 9/11 world."
