This is the sunset at the North Pole with the moon at its closest point. And, you also see the sun below the moon. An amazing photo and not one easily duplicated.......especially considering that the photo was taken from a surfaced nuclear submarine.

Got it from a buddy of mine who's still messing around in the ASW field directly by the US gov.
Where he got it, Mongo don't know. Mongo will ask.

Is the moon that close due to global warming?

Steve says he has no idea where the photo came from. Found it in the archives. He didn't realize it was a phony, either.

It's evidently faked.
1. Visually, the sun and the moon are the same size in the sky (about half a degree of arc). Ergo blowing up the moon to that size would expand the sun to the same size.
2. If the moon were that close to the sun in the sky, it would be all but invisible, because the daylight would overwhelm the light from the almost non-existent crescent.
3. The sky is far too dark for daylight hours.
4. If the crescent were that clearly visible, "earthshine" (http://www.pikespeakphoto.com/earthshinea.html) would be obvious.
5. At the north pole, a crescent moon cannot be directly above the sun.
Still, it would make a hellova nifty wallpaper if it were large enough.

Wow! Very pretty.
Interesting juxtaposition of that comment above your sig pics of Buckwheat morphing into Cynthia McKinney and vice versa.

I tuck that pitcher last time I's on Arcturus so you earthlings could see what a REAL solar system looked like.

AHA! I THOUGHT that looked like sunset over the methane lakes of Northern Banlarvik. Thanks for the memory jog. It's been several millenia since my last vacation there.

Actually the photo has now been verified officially... It was taken by Bo Derek with a camera she was holding just below her left breast... Which explains the heretofore unexplained "moon" effect above the sun...
Details at Ten... ..........................:licky: ..............

Here's the source page: Other program Gallery (http://www.8ung.at/gtn/Gallery/other/index00.htm)
It's available as a 1024x768 image. There are other equally excellent graphics.
