The Department of Homeland Security took a major step on April 11 in seeking to control 6,000 miles of the nation’s borders, calling for bids that eventually could bring upgraded sensor and surveillance technology, unmanned aerial vehicles and computers.
In addition to 1,500 new U.S. Border Patrol agents this year and another 1,500 next year, the effort could include advanced video cameras with high-resolution images, infrared viewing and night vision; heat and motion detectors; biological and chemical detectors; ground radar; and facial-recognition software technologies.
How about barbed wire?
Much cheaper, much lower cost, at least as effective.
America, are you seriously this dumb? Every time there's a problem, the Gubermint comes around promising to fix it... for a (huge) price.
So, once and for all, can I just get the plain truth -- America, are you seriously this stupid? I can just count on you, forevermore, to evidence the IQ of an eggplant?

A critical network of cameras and sensors installed for the U.S. Border Patrol along the Mexican and Canadian borders has been hobbled for years by defective equipment that was poorly installed, and by lax oversight by government officials who failed to properly supervise the project's contractor, according to government reports and public and industry officials.
The DHS is planning to add 3,000 agents over the next 2 years. Note we haven't seen the results yet -- it is technically still just hot air and promises, sugar -- but it's pleasant hot air.
But this is a panzy way to protect the board. It's put America already on the DEFENSIVE. Instead of a fence that is cheap, simple, easy, and QUICK and actually STOPS illegal entry....
we put expensive detection equipment and more men (we say) to try to detect and apprehend them after they've already started breaking in! We allow them to penetrate our borders... but threaten to notice them now!
DO ANY OF YOU THINK???
LOOK AT YOUR OWN DARN YARDS! How do you guard YOUR yard? Do you install millions of dollars worth of detection equipment and hire dozens of Brinks security guards to act like a LIVING FENCE to try to keep people out?
Or, do you put up a STATIC FENCE that's high enough to do the trick, and just keep your own darn eyes out and listen if it starts to rattle and sound like somebody's trying to climb it?
Or, how do you geniuses think we guard PRISONS??!?! Do we have NO WALLS but lots of officers and sensors, or a FEW OFFICERS in key places and LOTS OF STATIC FENCE??
DO YOU PEOPLE THINK, AT ALL??? If legions of sensors and guards was the best way to keep people from crossing a line in the sand, THE PROS would have been using that method already! But they don't! Cause try to guard a MAXIMUM SECURITY PRISON with NO FENCES and only lots of "eyes and hands"! If it's such a good idea, why don't we use it on our PRISONS?!? Seriously! IF it's such a good idea, why don't we adopt it for our yards and our prison yards??
