Wow, what an excellent list of utilities!! I've actually used the PDF995 one, and it works great.

What a GREAT link!

I do have a question though ... hope it's okay to include it here  . I have a CD that has a song on it that I want to put into my computer so I can listen to it without the CD. Is that called "ripping" a song? Does anyone know how to do what I'm trying to do? Maybe I need to turn it into an MP3? I don't know . . . any help would be greatly appreciated!

RealPlayer or Windows Media Player will turn your audio CD song into MP3, so you can listen to it without the CD.

Hmmm, I tried the "rip CD" function on Media Player, but once it was "ripped" I couldn't find it again! Supposedly it saves it somewhere, but doesn't tell me where. I must be doing something wrong,

Look in your Program Files and find Windows Media Player. You will see a folder there that stores your ripped files. Move the file to a convenient folder. Good luck.

P.S. What's the folder called, do you know? I can't seem to find it! (Figures, huh, LOL)

I don't remember, but if you rip another audio song, look at the default folder chosen for the MP3. It will be ripped as either a WMA or MP3 file. Follow the path of the folder's location and there it is. Good luck again, and you're welcome.:thumb:. Anytime.

You can also perform a search on your drive for *.mp3 or *.wma, and specify the date modified as today's date. That will show you the location of all such files created today.

If you used Windows Media Player, it defaults to My Documents\My Music as a save location. Look for a folder called "Unknown Artist". Inside will be "Unknown Album". In that folder will be whatever was ripped, probably in this format:

17 Track 17.wma

I just did it with a CD, and that's where and how it defaults.

If Media Player opens in its default fancy mode, Click on the down arrow, top row left, in this screen grab (Note: this is MP 10).

In the drop-down menu, click on Tools > Options > Rip Music. In that window you can change the default save location to wherever you want it, and change the file type to MP3 if desired. The desktop is a good place. Look for the same "Unknown Artist" folder.
