My mom picked this up either at a yard sale or at the Goodwill. She asked my dad what it was, and he had some guesses, but really had no idea. Same here. I'm stumped. I'm not up on modern gadgets.
Here's what I can tell you about it:
It's about 3" wide and almost 3" high. It has a tiny display, maybe 1" by 3/4", and a speaker next to it, exactly the same size. The display has a clock, and maybe more, but nothing seems to work except the clock. Below the display and speaker there's a black button that says PTT/call on it.
On the left end there are 2 buttons- one says scan, and the other says Menu/power. On the right end there are 2 buttons, one with a right arrow and one with a left arrow, and also what appears to be a charger cord port, and it says chg next to it.
Also on the front there is the name ACT, with a funny little logo, of what looks like a crossroads or something.
There's a ring sticking out the top. This ring can be moved to the bottom. On the back there are 3 AAA batteries behind a little battery door.
Behind the batteries it says ACT with the same logo, and also Model M2X.
Then it says FCC ID: QL2M2X.
Then there's a serial number, and below that it says Made in China.
There's an orange neck strap attached to a very short black strap with the same ACT name and logo on it.
I did a Google search and an Ixquick search and found nothing relevant.
So what the heck is it?
Any ideas? Anyone know?
Thanks,
Barry

If it is, this is what it is.

M2X X-Linx Two-Way Radio (http://www.xactcommunication.com/XLinx-32/M2X-XLinx-TwoWay-Radio-30.html)

It's a Family Radio Service (FRS) transceiver. It's useless without another FRS transceiver.

The picture you posted is exactly it.
Unfortunately there's only one.
I guess the reason I didn't find it is that the cross-roads logo before the ACT is actually an X.
Thanks to both of you.
I'll let my parents know.

Possibly it was in the tag sale because it's defective. Although it's relatively new, it must have bombed, and is discontinued.

They come as a pair. Here are a few sites that have new ones.

X-Linx Two-Way Radio with Clip (http://www.discountcell.com/bb_aspx/e_XT2Way/pi_M2X-2/1c/p.htm) ($38)

Xact X-Linx M2X - two-way radio - FRS/GMRS (http://www.mysimon.com/Xact_X_Linx_M2X_two_way_radio_FRS_GMRS/4014-3502_8-31456563.html?tag=pdtl-list) ($34)

XACT Communication M2X-2 X-Linx (http://www.scienceblog.com/store/7-912322-B000246X28-XACT_Communication_M2X_2_X_Linx_Personal_FRSGMRS_2 _Way_Communicator_2_Pack.html) ($26)

Possibly XAct can service the unit, although it's doubtful whether it would be worth it when a new set can be had for $26.

Thanks again.
I talked to my dad tonight and he said he has gotten the menu to work now too. Apparently he just didn't know what to do with it.
I was thinking of checking ebay for single units (to see if people sell them that way) and see if we could attempt to sell it to someone who has lost or broken one, something like that.

It will work with any FRS transceiver, so don't fret matching it.
