Hard-hearted Cape Cod school officials, feeling the heat over a possibly illegal misuse of criminal background checks, have relented and will let senior girls dry their tears and take their alleged bad-boy dates to the prom.
“I was happy and surprised at the same time! I just kept it in the back of my head, just hoping,” an overjoyed Tanya Dockray, 18, said after she got the news.
The principal of the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School - now facing a state probe and national media coverage - yesterday reversed his edict to outlaw from Saturday’s prom six nonstudents who had minor criminal histories.

“There is a very legitimate need for CORI information for schools, but we need to make sure those who access CORI information are doing so properly and for the appropriate reasons,” said Kelly Nantel of the Criminal History Systems Board. . .

Jenks told her that nonstudent dates must sign a form saying they’ll follow the rules. Sounds just like a typical teenager. She heard PART of something, and made up the rest. Nobody said SHE couldn't go to the prom. Pull the cotton out of your ears, missy.
Perhaps this was overkill. On the other hand, if a convicted molester or rapist came to the prom, carried out his sick predispositions and people found out, wouldn't that be more tragic? Just a thought.
What this school did was obtain CORI records illegally, they did NOT get permission from the individuals as per state law to obtain their CORI records, hence that school broke the law.
All they needed by law is permission from the person to obtain their CORI, otherwise they had no right to do these unauthorized background checks.

That's who should be in hot water. I seriously doubt the schools have direct access to CORI. They have to submit their requests to someone. Either that someone screwed up royally, or the school falsified the request. Either way, somebody should go to jail.

So Bill Clinton can go to the prom after all?
Hope Hillary doesn't find out . . .

I know in my school, back in the day, if you were found to be drinking or got in trouble for drinking you weren't allowed to any school dances.
Or if you were in trouble for other things as well, such as fighting.
The school had the right to ban any student, it wasn't a student's right to goto school dances but rather a privilege.
Man in todays world everybody thinks they are entitled to everything.
Only Civil war will bring this country back to greatness.

Ted Kennedy can go to the prom as well, but he'll have to give someone else his car keys.
