GM: End of Production Line for Hummer H1
Friday, May 12, 2006
DETROIT —
General Motors Corp. announced plans Friday for the H1, which is the foundation for the automaker's Hummer brand. Based on the military's Humvee, the vehicle put on the road since 1992 defined the Hummer name.
"It's a reflection of where we're going with the Hummer brand," Hummer general manager Martin Walsh said of the decision. "The Hummer DNA still resides in the Humvee. ... It will always be the core from where we come."
GM expects the last H1s to be built next month.
Walsh said Hummer plans to focus on models with broader appeal instead of the niche-market H1. Since taking over the Hummer name in 2000, GM has introduced the still hefty H2 and a midsize H3 sport utility vehicle..........http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,195303,00.html

The only similarity the H1 shares with the H2 (and the H3 for that matter) is the name.
The H2 is nothing more than a reskinned Chevy Yukon.
GM has a history of doing stupid things like this.
In the late '80s, it killed the Buick Grand National/GNX.
In the late '90s, it killed the wildly popular Chevy Caprice SS and GM's always looking for a reason to kill the Corvette.
Now it's killing the H1.
Way to go, GM. :smirky:

"Broader appeal"? "Clinton"? Are we talking about Bill or Hillary? (Hillary isn't appealing, but she is a broad. . .)

Careful how you mention "Yukon" around here. :D

Careful how you mention "Yukon" around here. :DChevy Tahoe, then. GMC had da Yukon. And he's right. The H2 is nothing more than a Tahoe with a square body bolted on top. Had somebody at work with one who didn't believe me til he went to check parts. They were all Tahoe. The only exceptions were different axle gears and the wheels. Nothing wrong with a Tahoe, mind you, but that's a helluva lot of money to pay just to have a different body bolted on top.

I personally like the H1 hummer Much more than the H2 and H3I never considered the H2 and H3 to be Hummers. They're Chevys. With the demise of the H1, there will be no more Hummers, hence the title of the thread.
There'll be hummers still out there in the wilds so not all is lost, given time they'll be collectors items and then given time and given the automotive companies having such a difficult time with gaining profits, they may 'cash' in on the Classic Hummer marketability and produce a limited special edition collectable Hummer at astronomical prices.
Do ya think they'd kill off their own market? They're into specializing and creating a special shortage just for this.

Do ya think they'd kill off their own market? They've done it before.
The H1 is an exceptional vehicle. While driving, you could talk smack to the wife and she wouldn't be able to reach you with the backhand.
The H2 and H3 are an emasculated version of the H1.
If I could afford it, I'd get one.

Oh you got that right.
As for the vette, chevy has killed a few cars off all in the name of keeping the vette king of the hill. Sorta like why the prowler never got a V8, they couldn't have it take away sales from the viper.
The Buick Grand National is an example of what GM can do when they take off the gloves. A car heavier than the vette, a smaller engine, a lower price tag, and the ability to spank it on the street.
GM needs to go back to the lesson of the 64 GTO. Vehicles that have style and appeal, that give people what they want at a reasonable price.
