The world's most fuel-efficient vehicle has been unveiled by its British inventor.

Andy Green, 45, from the University of Bath, believes his three-wheel TeamGreen car is capable of doing 8,000 miles to the gallon.

His budget eco-motor cost just £2,000 to build and will be the sole British contender for the title of the world's most fuel-economic car in a global competition being later this month.

The car, which weighs less than 5 stone - the average weight of a nine-year-old boy - made its debut at the Somerset university campus.

It will compete against 250 teams from around the world for the Shell Eco-Marathon championships in France from May 19.

Can you put a big block in it?

From the article:
(Mr. Andy Green)
"The care is important because it is a reminder that the way to achieve fule-savings is to drive lighter cars. It's the weight of this car that is the main reason for its fuel-efficiency."

and

Under the rules in France the car has to be driven at an average speed of 18mph.

Drive normal, and die because there's no protection from the vehicle (in accidents) OR drive so slow, you could get there faster by jogging, :smirky: .

as the people drive by the little flat car they saved a lot of gas but they didnt get far in a yugo

Clearly it is an experimental car and not meant to replace our cars. But can we glean any technologies or any ideas from it to help us?

Clearly it is an experimental car and not meant to replace our cars. But can we glean any technologies or any ideas from it to help us?Yeah, we can start building cars out of balsa wood and aluminum foil.

Clearly it is an experimental car and not meant to replace our cars. But can we glean any technologies or any ideas from it to help us?From a standpoint of aerodynamics at least, yes. As far as structure and engines go, not so much. That's not because what they're doing isn't good. It's because the size and design limitations take them into areas which really aren't practical for passenger cars. I wish they'd have contests like this that establish parameters that would steer the development more into those passenger car realms. These guys sometimes do innovate some nice stuff, and it would be nice to see more of that in a 'usable' fashion.

Yes !!! a 514 ford Big Block ought to propel this critter at a good bit over 18 mph !!

I'd prefer a 426 hemi with a Jimmy 6-71. It would idle at 18 MPH.

A Pratt-Whitney such as powered the Saturn V. Cruises around Mach 20.

It WOULD be hard to fit it under the hood, but hey, that's what innovator are for.

Take a Pratt-Whitney out of a Saturn V and put it in a Saturn Vue.
