In India, the government Tuesday put a temporary hold on the movie's release because of complaints.
In South Korea, which has 13 million Protestants and 4.6 million Roman Catholics, a court ruled Tuesday that a Christian group's request for an injunction to block screenings lacked merit.
"As it is clear that the novel and movie are all fiction ... there is no probability that the movie can make viewers mistakenly believe the contents of the movie are facts," chief judge Song Jin-hyun said in his ruling.
The Christian Council of Korea, an umbrella group of 63 South Korean Protestant denominations, said it respected the ruling but would lead a boycott of the movie, which it said defiles the sanctity of Jesus Christ and distorts facts.

Hate to differ, but the more they protest, the more publicity the film gets.
Christians should totally ignore it. Or better still, deride it, pass it off as nonsense. That's much more effective.

or maybe just mention to folks that it is FICTION, has no more significance than Jason vs Freddie

How dare you incorrectly cite the masterpiece that is "Freddy vs. Jason!"

Christian protests of this movie just show how absolutely ridiculous some people are. It's a movie, and the book sold millions of copies. I mean Lord in heaven, there are so many other things they could be complaining about or protesting or trying to change. What is that they are afraid of really? Its all cold coffee and hot words.

Exactly. Furthermore, why are the Christians going to watch the movie AND buy the books? And it's all under the name "I'm just going to see what it's about!" :hissyfit:

To people who are not Christian it just makes it seem as though all Christians are highly defensive, not to mention contradictory. As Maggie said and Teenager alluded to, if they think its nonsense than they ought to act as though it were nonsensical and not pay any attention to it, or explain at church how it is faulty.

Here in GF, someone stole all the lenses for the projectors on "opening day". No sign of forced entry...the cops are baffled. I think it sucks because people are laying blame at the feet of Christians here in town.
Then, some dufus from Florida has a letter to the editor in yesterday's paper, and I quote (title is likely put there by the editorial board):
The End (Censorship) Justifies the Means (Theft)
Merrit Island, Fla. - I just read the Herald's story about lenses being stolen at a movie theater where "The Da Vinci Code" is playing.
I think that's marvelous. Those lenses must be very expensive, so it was daring of a brave Christian to steal them - and, I'm sure the movie theater is insured.
Sure, stealing is a sin, but no pastor in the land would fault someone for stealing for Jesus.
Brad DeMoranville
For the record...First of all, one does not steal for Jesus. Secondly, Mr. DeMORONville, you are an ignorant putz. Thirdly, I would expect EVERY pastor in the land to denounce the theft, ESPECIALLY if it was perpetrated by a self-proclaimed "christian".
Some people are so dense, it's a wonder they can think and breathe at the same time.

Exactly. Let people go. Then, when those whom you know (who may not yet know Christ) bring it up, EDUCATE them. Share the Gospel. THAT is what Christians ought to be doing. Why get distracted by lies, when we are charged with telling people about the Truth?
Sad commentary on "pew warming christians" doing more to harm the faith than spread it.

2 Tim 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Welcome to the end.
"Hey, Joe, what's that bulge on your neck?"
"It's just a malignant tumor. I'm ignoring it so that it will go away."
What a sorry state of affairs it is when Christians are derided and attacked for speaking out against "entertainment" that defecates on everything that they hold sacred.

Let them speak out all they want. It's just more publicity and more ticket sales.
Ka-Ching!
Theft, however, is another matter. Many Christians, it seems, will go to any lengths to step on the idea of freedom of speech.

Oh gee Dr. Doom, do you think it was an atheist or a buddhist? Hmmmmm....
and second, one person is hardly "many". The idiot who wrote the letter is also not "many".
Many may not have done it, but many obviously support and approve of the theft. Maybe they should just grow up? Maybe Christians should accept that in a free society others can say whatever they want about their religion. It's called freedom of speech. Familiar with it?
Many atheist trolls will come to FC just to spew their bigotry.
Isn't that how you got here? I've seen some bigotry in my time but nothing like the garbage spewed from your miserable geriatric cake hole.

Yeah, there are always those in positions of power who can dish it out but can't take it.
They're more commonly known as cowards.

Well, as a Christian, there is no way I would sit on the sidelines and NOT say something about lies directed at/regarding the Deity of Christ Jesus. However, I also realize, that making a donkey out of one's self protesting this thing is only going to cause MORE people to see it (I understand the psychology of children -- tell them not to, and they just want to do it even more).
Achieving balance is a precarious thing. I have chosen to make my feelings known regarding this issue when asked, and I have been asked if I have read the book, if I am going to see the movie. I take that opportunity to explain why I am against this blasphemy, and how I believe as a Christian, my actions bear fruit upon my belief.
I treat this much the same way I have the "Harry Potter" series. I do not believe Christians should be silent, but I also do not believe we should make idiots of ourselves by frothing at the mouth over its existence.
